I have some live primers that were removed from brass that was showing signs of case head separation. What's the proper way of disposing of them?

Load them in good cases and fire? I have removed primers from numerous cases and reused them without issue.

Perzacerly Slim.

HJ...there is nothing wrong with the primers mate...as Slim says...reload them into good cases and use them mate...no sense in wasting them.

On the other hand...if you manage to crush a primer that goes in sideways...it happens mate...the easiest way I find of disposing of them is the put some loose paper in the bottom of a tin can, drop the primer in to it, then put a match to it and walk away....takes maybe 30 secs, but it goes pop, all gone, no problems.

Cheers, Vince

Oils will often render the fulminate inert. Soak them in WD-40 and then try vinces technique to see if it works.

Oh, here we go again.

Water, WD-40, oil or any other substance will not render modern primers inert. Maybe one or two will be effected, but......

Modern primers have a protective coating like shelac or varnish to protect them from the eliments. You will note the unsealed and flimsy packaging they come in.

Load them in good cases and proceed with life. If I do have (and it's rare) a live primer that must be done away with I just put them in my waste basket under my loading bench. From there they end up in a steel 55 gal. burn barrel and go pop sometime after I re-enter my house.

I have been soaking bad primers in kerosene for a few days.
then took them to my next camp and light them up inside an empty can.

One or two might be duds if the anvil gets kaddywompus, maybe, them things love to go bang. ...giver a go in some plinking ammo if yer not sure if they got buggered up. I check close like with a mag glass and compare 'em to virgin ones if I reuse 'em in must-fire stuff.

The primes were probably better protected installed in the brass case than sitting in the 100-pack paper covered plastic tray. I haven't had a misfire.

It depends. I would never recycle live primers. Just a personal preference thing. All the best...
