After a couple of empty stands my partner and I made the mile long hike back to my all time favorite coyote honey hole. I had been staying out of here to allow the landowner to pursue a big eleven point buck but since deer season ended last week.... Game on!

I set up on a fence line with about 250 yards of corn field between me and a timber line at the river bottoms. My partner on a knoll in the corn stubble about 75 yards to my right with a two track trail running between us. The 10 mph wind was blowing into my left ear so we were expecting the approach from in front of us with a likely swing to the right to catch our wind. I opened the stand with a female invitation howl and after a short pause went to a rabbit distress.

The coyotes did not dissapoint me. Within a few minutes I see a coyote working through the stubble. I switched to lip squeaks to finish the yote while I raised the AR to get it in my sights. I was wanting my partner to get the kill since he is wearing the collar for the season and he knew when I went to lip squeaks I had one coming.

When the coyote hit the two track path it came straight in to about 125 yards and turned to the right to try and catch my wind. I could not wait any longer for my partner to shoot so I aimed for the front shoulder and squeezed off the 55 Vmax. It was bang two spins and then Flop. the V- max entered on her right side but did not exit.

It turns out my buddy had fogged his scope and could not make the shot. After a few high fives... we went another 200 yards forward and over the hill into the river bottom area. I had called less than 20 seconds until my partner says He sees one. It was about 50 yards to the right but behind some pretty thick cover. The wind was switching and the yote caught a wiff and went trotting off toward the big timber, when he cleared the brush he was about 150 yards out and 30 mph... BUSTED!!!
no miracle shots taken on this one. We'll get him later.

Good shooting DawgDad! And great shooting.

I'll be pretty much confined to the house after next week so keep me up on the stories. I'm enjoying 'em!
