Recently I purchased a new Nikon camera. That Nikon is a Japanese Corp. is well known. What did surprise me is that the camera was made in China. I guess I really never would a thunk that Japanese stuff would be made in China also. wtf

Newer Nikons are made in China, however, since year 1999, Nikons had been made in Philipines, Indonesia, Thailand and Vietnam.

Canon, Pentax, Sony, Panasonics, Ricoh etc have had their factories all around asia for years.

To be able to compete, large companies now have moved their operations more to either China or India.
It is not because only of the cheaper labor, but also there is much less Government red tape and taxes.
There is also big government rebates and grants for overseas investors to China.
Other countries may b!tch about their losses in jobs, but the fact is the more red tape, the less companies make it happen.

My new Canon DSLR (November '09) was made in Taiwan as was the 18mm-55mm IS.

However my 55mm-250mm IS was made in Malaysia.

Just about everything at Wal-Mart, K-Mart and Target was made in China. So where do we shop? All the best...
