Why did I take that one so easy? I tought a 'balk' was one of these words that's the same in many languages, such as 'plank', 'garage', 'holster', 'president', ...

Aloysius,

Here in the US, in baseball a balk is considered an illegal motion, for example, with runners on base if the pitcher winds up with the ball with intentions to deliver the ball to home plate where the batter is and with runners on base, after the pitcher goes into his wind-up or makes any movement associated with delivering the ball to home plate, the pitcher must not interrupt his motion or the umpire can call a balk. A balk occurs when a pitcher tries to catch a runner off base with a pick-off throw after he has started his delivery to the batter.

Omi, can you believe there are countries on this world where they don't know anything about baseball? And when you don't know anything about baseball... you know how many new-words-for-me you placed in that reply?
Better go back to the holster, which is named the same here in Flemish Smile

And just for your info: the sound of a donkey is also called "balken" in Flemish. So maybe your "umpire" will call "IiiAa" when a baseballplayer does that move you described? Smile
