Don't make me cry. I passed up a gorgeous drilling in 16 gauge/ 9.3x74R many years ago. Another of those that got away simply because I didn't (at the time) know what it was!

Omni- the Wingmaster is such a no brainer.
I had a shot at a Field Special 3 years ago. I didnt have my calipers so I couldnt guage the fixed choke and I passed on it. I'm sorry I did it was gone the next day. There are so many classic WM's out there and some are real sweethearts. And that action is like buttuh! I shoot with some lads with some awesome Deulxe WM's and Big Green really cranks out some nice stuff!
The Mossy will make a nice addition to the rack though and beak things up a little. The Russian used to really get the "look" and draw some gawkers, the little Benelli does too and now the lone Crown Grade Mossy on the rack probably will too and as a gun nut it's a lot of fun to shoot the cheese with the old guys over this stuff. I think I'm down to three pumps. Got a line on a used 870 WM for $275 I'm looking into now so...that's a possiblity too. I love deluxe grade Trombones...dunnow why but for me the pump just does it.

Good choice Stovey, I own three 870's from the late 60's and early 70's including one that was converted to 3" mag using a 3" barrel and 3" extractor. Never had any trouble with these early wingmasters. But my local smith will absolutely not work on any remington shotgun built after 2007!!
If I had to buy another, it would be a mossy.

Thanks Mac! MY bud's a newby and I steered him into the Mossy 500 Silver Synthetic combo from Big 5 for 199$ a couple weks ago...he'd never shot so I took him along to the trap range cuz he wanted to go and see what all the fun was about. He was smokin' 'em and now he's hooked and can't wait to get his hunt license. And I've always been a fan of the Mossy and boy my eye's got big when I saw this one! The 870 gets all the light but the 500 will do just as well and it's action is much easier to tac-reload, has two extractors and a whole lot more. 870 is no slouch but...gimme a Mossy 500 anyday!

Well I didnt have a 12g field gun...and my Benelli 20g clays gun project aint totally panning out 100%, I mean it works, looks wicked cool, recoil's been tamed a LOT but...I'm finding out after a case and a half of shells it's a pretty focused hunting tool, duh - the LOP is way too long with a slip-on on it, the shell catcher wire thingy needs constant tweaking, blah blah blah, it beats sitting on my hands but... and it's been several months since I got a new gun so...I need an excuse!
Was cruising the Gun Genie last night....God is that dangerous and I know that I should stash my wallet in a phone booth fulla tigers before trying that!
Stumbled onto this "trombone". Never knew they made it. "Mossberg 500 Classic". So it's gota be bomb-proof.
Red Pachmayr vented pad w/ white line spacer, hi-gloss walnut w/ fine checkering, gold trigger, deep polished-blue, jeweled bolt, 3" chamber and ported tube- ported tube! 5-chokes, weighs almost 8# (3# more than the Benelli) for......
$375.00.
Make a nice addition and a great clays mule. I'll be "shuckin' corn" from 27y soon on the doulbles pad...woohoo!
Aaaand...I got it. ....report and pics soon.

That's baddass and a great choice! What a killer saddle gun. 44sp aint nothin' to sneeze at either, esp in a Ruger cuz you spice them up a touch over the factory stuff and woof! it's on. Sherrif Wilson did a custom build on a shorty SA .44sp long time back and that got me going good. Great lil gun.
Great choice, I love it.

I've been wanting a .44 Special Flattop since Ruger came out with them. Why a dedicated .44 sp. and not a Super Blackhawk that will shoot mags or specials, well I like the feel of the smaller frame size. Here's a stock photo of the one I ordered on New Years day.

I am thinking this year I am going to start looking for a cheap Remington with a Model 700 long action as a base to build a custom .308

Nope. Barrel work looks pretty good matter of fact, chamber's honed straight and bore is decently smooth. Bluing's a teency bit thin on the mag tube. Bead is straight as an arrow, barrel sets in reciever straight as well. Gotta say it dont look like much but I'm impressed with the design. The slide release is extended and hangs down in front of the trigger gaurd. Super easy to get to, might be a snag so, careful there as one would be with anything getting close to that area like branches. Trigger guard is large enough for a glove. Never had a gun apart and go back together so easy. I can fillet it, including the fire controls, to a bare shell and back together in less than a minute.
