Welcome to Hunting Nut !!! Howdy

The bullet being used is a Sierra 175gr.HPBT Match-King.
Ballistic coefficients are:
.505 @ 2800 fps and above
.496 between 2800 and 1800 fps
.485 @ 1800 and below

As near as I can tell muzzle velocity is listed at 2600 for the factory loading.
Remington typically uses a 24” barrel in their test.

Hopefully this is enough info that you can plug some figures in and take a look at what to expect.

Sorry been busy setting up a laptop for the range.Thank you for helping out.I talked to Remington direct about the ammo but they sent me to hodgdon and I got lost not knowing the right things to put in the ballistic software All I know is I shoot a Remington 700 in 308 26"barrel with a 200 yard zero and was hoping to try some long range shooting during vacation in july.Bullets are getting a bit expensive to spray and pray.Hopefully a MildotMaster and some ballistic work will get me out to 600 or 800 yards.Thank you all.Colimr

I you know your velocity, projectile BC and the zero distance;
Then by plugging them into PointBlank, you can get the drop and windage for further or closer distances.

If you have problem then tell us where exactly you are up to, we will walk you across from there.
It is hard to help someone if we dont know where they got stuck.

So pull up a stump, grab one of Vince's beer, and ask away..

700 rem in 308 cal is a fine rifle . thats what i deer hunt with . load my own shells and like to push barnes triple shock through the barrel at the deer .. one shot kills all the way so far. varget powder and imr4064 are my powders i use. also use the 165 nosler balistic tip along with hornady sst.. good gun though .. oh yeah ,throw me one of vince's beers too hahaha

Been to the range ballistics on the money now to learn my mildot calculations and holdovers.175 grain bthp drops awfully fastbut after 2 boxes of ammo im still hitting in a 6x6 square at 300 yards.looking to find somewhere in the area to shoot beyond 300 yards up to 800 yards i know its better to stalk and get within 100 yards but im hooked on the challenge of long distance shooting.hopefully camp perry is in the future.now to try my bushmaster with the ballistic program.you guys rock and the beer is on me for the next round .Thanks

Colimr,

I do not want to start a big problem here but I would be very careful shooting live game with a MATCH king bullet. These are designed for poking holes in paper not animals. They are hollow points to get the center of gravity back toward the heel of the bullet. They are not designed to expand like hunting bullets. There is often no expansion at all and they are as effective as FMJ's.

As far as your drop calculations check out the thread about Sharpshooter Joes 1000 yard range. some good information in there.

BTW - I am heading to Camp Perry tomorrow....

Yea!!! What he said !!!

If your really set on using match grade, Berger Bullets offer “Match Grade Hunting Bullets” for long range work!!!

Thank you to everyone for thier concern but I may have given the wrong impression in joining this site I an not a hunter.I am very aware of the proper choice in weapon and caliber needed in hunting a number of game.My intention was to join a site where the members understand the value in the proper use of a firearm and the responsiability in owning and using a firearm. As a child I was introdu.ced to hunting but as times have changed so have my abilities to stalk and hunt in general.I still enjoy hunting stories but all I am able to enjoy personally is the bench rest shooting I do now.SO this explains my post reguarding the Point Blank software..I love longrange shooting but I have to find a way to become more accurate while reducing the long trips to confirm shot placement .I do hope I wont have to leave the site because I am not an active hunter. Please let me know if I do it has been a pleasure reading the members posts.Tim

Don't worry about it! Once a hunter always a hunter. These guy's are the best and most concerned hunting and shooting enthusiasts that I have ever run into. I value their opinions more then the locals I deal with. Although we may drift of subject occasionally or poke at each other they are a great bunch, and are actually very knowledgeable. So pull up a stump grab another one of Vince's beers and stay a while.

Tim, stick around and jump on in when you feel like it! If you're shooting benchrest you might be able to teach me a thing or two! I don't do benchrest (yet) but I'm interested in about all aspects of shooting.
