Hi All,
Has anyone got experience with sub-sonic 30-30 loads?
I've found a few articles on the web about working up a load from scratch, but no-one has shared a load they've used.
ADI powders would be best, but anything is good for starters - even a .308 or 30-06 sub-sonic load for comparison...
Thanks,
Bavo.

where about from Victoria are you?
Subsonics shooter eh?
Join the club
Here is some like minded mob that shoots subsonics on a lot of conventional cartridges. Including the ubiquitous 30-30.

Lots of data there!!
Good luck, and post your findings ok!

Oh for Pete sake...Another Aussie...I swear... You [Gelandangan] and Vince are recruiting them onto here...
Bavo...Welcome to this fine site. As stated...Grab a beer (make sure it's Vince's) and pull up a stump...
Hummm...Never thought of shooting Sub-sonic rounds from my Jack Handle. I'll have to do some reading on that site that Gelandangan posted.

When I get more time I definitely want to read through these notes.

Chambs, the reason no jacketed projectile in the list is the fact that if a jackedted pellet got stuck in the barrel it took too long to remove and there is chance of barrel got damaged.
Bushy, you might be right..
Mr D. I never actually got any interest of slowing down a 308, however, I heard from a few sites,
1.
www.quarterbore.net/fo...t-280.html
2.
www.silencertalk.com/f...experiment
www.silencertalk.com/f...experiment
www.silencertalk.com/f...experiment
etc this guy Artful is doing the 308 subsonics experiment with quire good write ups and pictures.
There are 16 experiments listed and all results are quite well documented there.
3.
I heard that "The LOAD" 13gb of RedDot is going near subs @1300fps on 180gn pellets..
Personally, I dont like subsonics on standard barrels because the twist are too slow.
You need to spin the projectile at a minimum RPM to give it a stable flight (Greenhill formula?)

Welcome . For subsonic I'd definitely stick with a heavy lead bullet to help slow it down .

Not to hijack a thread but... If we're going all subsonic here why choose a cartridge designed to push a bullet fast? A .45 Colt will push a 300 grain bullet to 1100 ft/sec easily and it’s within its design parameters. A .45-70 will do it with a 600 grain bullet. Trying to do this with a .308 seems like trying to use a Corvette as a farm tractor...

Cause other then 308's all I got is a 8mm Mauser.
And I got the reloading dies and spare brass for the 308Win already.
