I found this at another site and thought it might serve well here as a important safety reminder!!!

The gun, a Browning A-Bolt .223WSSM had a 6MM BR chambered and fired and as you can see gun has serious problems now!!!
This accident occurred because of a misidentified bag of ammo and the reluctance of the shooter to verify a head stamp while at the range with two guns.

NO!! It won't. Experienced or not. He failed to observe the safety rules of all shooters in that he didn't properly identify, mark or inspect his rounds or keep them properly seperated. NO! It will not happen to me. Besides. It may be a bit of a problem to mix up .30-30 and .30-06 cartridges in my house or on the range. Very Happy

My sympathy is for the poor rifle...Looked like it was a nice one...

I hope your not the next one !!! But the law of averages says........................

This reminder goes for any aspect of the sport, not just mixing up ammo !!!

I learned long ago to check your ammo before shooting .It also helps to be sure your ammo is safe .

Chambered221...Why it won't happen to me:
After inspecting and tumbling, cases are inspected and graded.
Resized on a single stage press and inspected, measured and trimmed if needed. Rifle and handgun cases that will be crimped (ie .30-30, .357 magnum, etc) are trimmed to within +/-.002" of each other in that particular set (50 for handgun and 20 for rifle). I even trim .45 ACP cases because I found out that they tend to preform better in my Colt 1911 (trimmed to .890")
Sorted into head stamps.
Primed on a single stage press and inspected.
I use only two stations of a four station turret press unless I'm using a Lee FCD, then three stations.
I start with my powder through/belling die. Dump the powder into my electronic scale (that's EVERY powder drop) is weighed and trickle up to what I want.
Dump the powder back into the case and replace it on the turret to seat and crimp the Bullet in the case. And inspected. My cartridge AOL is carefully monitored except for those with cannelured bullets then crimps are carefully monitored.

When I reload rifle the procedure is exactly the same except I use only my single state press for all operations.

I do not use or have any use for a progresive press...And every aspect of reloading, cleaning and care of my firearms and reloading equipment is carefully managed.

Chambered221...I was a mechanic for 45 years and retired as a Master Marine/Industrial Diesel Mechanic. With no back injures, no knee or leg injuries. I have never had surgery on any of my body parts except my ears to correct absolute deafness. I hear well on stainless steel wire in place of the Stapes. I did loose 1/4" of my left hand middle finger to the main reduction gear (bull gear and pinion) of a Mine Sweep.

It is very highly doubtful that a reloading accident will happen to me or my firearms. I don't even believe in accidents. I believe in "cause and effect"...No such thing as a "accidental discharge", but you can have a "neglegent discharge"...

"No, it will not happen to me"

Party Well said Bushmaster.. Party

Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy

Bushmaster said it all, cause and effect not accident. Our chosen hobby is dangerous when we become over confident and deviate from our step by step process disaster can strike.

at a range one time when an experenced reloader made a careless mistake. he mistakenly seated .311 150 gr bullets into 30.06 cases, had been loading 303 british,I know, should have felt to much effort when seating them, but ne didn't. chambered a round in a mod 70 Win.(pre '64) and fired it. notcied way too much recoil. rifle stayed toether. had one hexxve time opening the bolt. amazingly did no damage the rifle. BE CAREFUL OUT THERE

Rule one...Have nothing out on the loading bench that is not for the cartridge you are loading.

Next?

I color code my boxes for different calibers. Makes it easy and a bit safer to distinguish which ammo goes with each rifle.
