Dimitri

I've oftentimes wondered why they continue with the "lug"...

Dunno if they even have bayonet training these days...

One of my absolute favorite training courses was the bayonet course @ FLW MO. I REALLY had fun there.....

Since World War 1, many have pushed to eliminate bayonets as useless accessories that wont be used in the next war.

Every war since then there have been battles that have been decided at the point of ones bayonet.

You're right 'Mitri. One battle in particular, if I remember correctly, was during the Korean war, the battle of Pork Chop Hill. The Marines fought hand to hand with fixed bayonets because they were almost completly out of ammo and were being over-run.
I know that I would prefer to have the option of a bayonet.

There were a few battles in Korea that required the use of a Bayonet, which is kinda interesting to note that so called military experts after World War 2 were quite confidant that the bayonet is a thing of the past.

Then in Veitnam the bayonet was also useful when faced with charging masses of Vietnamese troops.

Even in the current Iraq War the bayonet has been used (Those Scotsmen are some interesting folk).

Even a hunting rifle can be useful if you have a bayonet. Gives you added distance to poke a bear you shot to make sure its not bluffing its injury giving you extra room to shoot it again before it gets up. Shocked

Yeah...I trained there in '85. OSUT as a 12B10 (Combat Engineer) Delta Company, 2nd Batallion, Second Training Brigade (Delta 2-2) "Go Delta Dawgs (WOOF WOOF)", and had a LOT of fun tearin' that place up.

I was in training when that nutjob in Libya started acting stupid (Moammar Kadafi) We weren't allowed access to ANY current events topics and they told us very little about the situation, but we were advised that we might forego AIT and ship there straight from BASIC. I still, to this day, don't know what happened in the spring of '85.

Last I heard it was stilled called Lost in the Woods
