You guys ever substitute a 'rubber gong' for the real thing on a friend who is a good shot?

I am fond of setting up 2qt cardboard orange juice cartons, filled with water, on the 200 yard rail. They're 4" wide and 10" tall, and have a screw top. Big gushers reward a hit. Not an easy target offhand, but certainly do-able if you gradually and patiently work your way out to 200.

Last week at the club shoot, I fired 7 rounds and missed my carton each time, which is really bad. Several of the boys, who are between very good to awesome shots, gave it a go and also missed. Then M -who is an awesome shot- stands up, fires, and kapoweee the jug blows up. So congratulations all around.

This week, I set up several cartons on the 200yard rail. Then told everyone that the one on the very right was reserved for M as it was empty, the back being cut out of it, then stapled to the rail. Meanwhile, M. was out at the 100 yd line, stapling up the paper targets for the match.

Once the formal match was done, the playing started.

I distracted M until the others had destroyed the other full cartons, leaving M the last one, on the right. M fired 4 shots at it and hit it four times in a row - I could see tiny little bits of carton blowing out the back, which he couldn't due to recoil. After the third miss, M. was shaking his head. I asked and he confirmed the crosshairs were right on the carton when the shots had gone off. After the fourth miss, M. looked at me and broke into a big smile, asking if this was a rubber carton....the gig was up and we all had a good laugh.

Anyhow, M. placed those four rounds at 200 yds, stacked vertically down the middle within 4" of each other. Not too shabby on a 4"x10" target.

You guys play any safe hunting or shooting practical jokes on your buddies?

You are a real sh1t stirrer twofifty....I like it mate. Very Happy Laughing Laughing

I'll have to remember this one...I have a mate who will "benefit nicely" from the effects of it. Very Happy Laughing

The most I have done is play "silly buggers" when we are shooting small tin cans (2" dia) off posts. We use .22 rimfires shooting offhand at 75m - 100m. He uses his Norinco and I use my Krico.

I'll stand off to the side of my mate and take aim as he does. I can usually get my shot off before him...blast the can, or shoot the post just under it, just before he takes his shot....makes him swear something chronic.

Laughing

Cheers, Vince

I drilled out a hollow point bullet once - all the way through and seated it over just a primer. Fired to good hot rounds and then pop - my buddy looked at me and said i loged one in the barrel.
I glanced at the cylinder and the bullet was still in the case - just like I planned. I told him I knew how to get the bullet out and fired the next round. Shocked
He was sure I had lost my mind until I emptied the cylinder into my hand and he saw the bullet. Very Happy

Great use of the power of plausibility.
Your buddy must have cringed before that last round went off. That's a gotcha for sure.

I fall for that once!!
Damn scary.. Bonk
I was shooting next to the guy in the range..

The question is how could you see into the cylinder? I believe the gap is way too small to make sure that the projectile has not gone to the barrel?
Looking into the barrel? with a loaded gun?? Shocked

When you rotate the cylinder to fire the next shot the last cartridge is visible... The guy next to you is too stunned to look.

But to rotate the cylinder, you have to cock the hammer,
thus making it pretty unsafe to look at or pointed at the general direction of your HEAD would it not?

If you think you have to point the pistol at your head to see a bullet loaded in a chamber you are not looking at it the way I did. I can see it from behind the muzzle from the top. That bullet is close to the mouth of the cylinder - you don't have to make it dangerous to see the bullet.
