The surplus arms market never ceases to amaze me. I have bought several NRA mint Russian 1944 carbines with the accessory pack in the last year for $70.00 to $90.00. That same gun shop still has then in that condition for about $100.00.
Yesterday, I was in another gun shop and saw a beat up Russian 1944 Carbine for $209.00 as is. I asked if that price was firm and was assured it was solid. Once again, it pays to shop around. Take care...

Joe,
Likely as not, that second gun shop over charges on everything they sell. Either their overhead demands the price hike or they are just trying to make a bigger profit on each sale. Sometimes better service is worth a small premium, but their prices are off the wall. Either way it would be the last they saw of me.

Joe, how do you like the Russian carbines? I was looking at them for a "truck gun". I can't remember the exact prices at the last gun show but they were pretty low. I remember the 1891 rifles were $90. Note that the sights were originally graduated in "arshins", which are 28" long.

The M38 and the M44 make great truck guns. They will take anything in North America, kick like a mule, and spit out about a foot of flame.
Here's mine:

Thanks FALPhil! Nice looking piece too! Did you refinish the stock, etc?

I got this piece from AIM Surplus for $79 + S&H with accessories. It is all matching, and the stock was generally in good shape. I stripped it and put about 4 coats of full strength tung oil on it, to get that shiny Russian lacquer look.

I have both the carbine, and the 91/30 I hand load all my ammo , and I put a synth stock on them both , limbsavers recoil pad and voila nice "truck gun" no kick , and reasonably accurate less weight too
