I dont like the show Future Weapons, and clips like this is why.

A shotgun which is "deadly" to 200 yards. Its a smooth bore, so none of the fancy higher energy slugs that are avalible for rifled bores, and they "test" it using #2 shot at 25 yards or so in the video. Rolling Eyes

"Seven different types of stainless steel", not really needed for a firearm but I guess its a selling feature. Confused

Or the best part "fear factor" to scare the enemy with a shotgun that uses huge magazines that take huge drums, a gunner may only hold based on their size perhaps only 4 (each drum weighing 2kg each when loaded 2/3rds the weight of 200 rounds of linked 5.56mm for the SAW) of them in a SAW gunner set up ?? Confused Thats 80 rounds. Shocked

Still the Koreans have made over 30,000 automatic shotguns in the 90's called the USAS-12, and sold them. Wink

A USAS-12:

No thats not me, that guys is way too big to be me. Never been that big in my life. Laughing

The USAS-12 shotguns is one of 3 firearms when they went on their banning crazy they actually confiscated instead of simply grandfathering people as far as I know, the other 2 being the Calico 22LR's and the SPAS-12 shotgun. Not too sure though, I was way too young at the time. Very Happy

They are neat. And would love to try one. But as I said can't do that here. Sad

I am just ranting about Future Weapons. Laughing

Cause every firearm is the "best thing to come along" and its always implied that its "just ready to get deployed by the military in Afganistan and Iraq and by the police for SWAT use". Rolling Eyes

I can't watch Future Weapons cause the "host" is extremely annoying.

I forget his name, he's a former Navy Seal, I believe, and every time he starts to over emphasize his words I change the channel.

He says things like:

"This thing is accurate even at five HUNDRED meters."

Actually, if you think about it, in the metallurgical world the number of dissimilar stainless alloys is done for lubricity, (hard against soft etc.), would cut down on need for grease and oils that get dirty and jamb.

BYW I think the guy on that Future weapons is a "richard cranium" also, But he is making good bucks and we're not.

I know they are reasons to use different steels (both stainless or otherwise) together to make a firearm or anything else for that matter. There are alot of things that do use quite a number of steels for its subcomponents.

Thing is, sure they may have needed to use 7 different types but that fact alone doesn't make it a selling feature, except for people who like to brag about being "different". Wink

It's called "Marketing".
Any way, I get it, you just don't like it.
I just put it out there as a FYI, so thank you for your expert opinion.

Time to move on.

Dimitri, I'm with you on the 200 yard thing..........................

But I must say, alot of people have this preception that smooth bores are 25 yard guns.

I know of some deer that only wish that to be true!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Tank cannons are smoothbores too...

That AA-12 may be the only full auto weapon I'd really like to have. Well, an MP-5 might be nice too...

I have seen this as well and from my personal experience with a shot gun it's actually a heck of alot MORE effective for things that need done at closer range. Alot more holes in the living flesh of the intended target to cause massive bleeding. My dad and I were kind of talking about this last night. In Iowa the only plae you can use a centerfire rifle is in the two southern tier counties. I know that at 200 yards dad's M700/.50 with a 185gr(?) Dead Center saboted bullet will hit an Iowa whitetail and be VERY effective. Take a 240-250gr SST bullet from Hornady and put it through a rifled or smooth 12ga. shotgun barrel and you have the same exact thing as the In-Line muzzle-loading rifle. Which surprisingly is very similar in performance to a .30-40Krag, or a .300Savage or the two 7.5's(Swiss and French). Now I know that these are not that GREAT but back in the 30's and 40' the Savage and the Krag were VERY respected game takers. So my thought and dad now agrees with me; where do you draw the line on the performance level, one is the same as the other except for the speed of a follow-up shot? And smoothbore will sometimes surprise you on just how accurate they are, even with "pumpkin balls"(Foster style slugs) sabots are even better. An older 20ga. 870 my uncle has with a 4x on top of it in a reciever mount will throw Foster style all day long 3" at 100 yards with I believe is a non-rifled slug barrel. That is impressive by any standard. And his dedicated "deer shotgun" with a rifled barrel will do even better. I also am not a fan of Macavitz (I am misspelling the name) as I belive it is actually a Polish or Slavic origin. Any way the guy can get a bit old I will TOTALLY agree.
