Hi! Who want to buy the gun of Purdey&Sons?
16-bore Hammerless ejector gun No. 20176
Completed December 1911
Original barrel length: 28 1/2" (724mm)
Original chamber length: 2 1/2" (65mm)
Original chokes: 3/4 & Full
Original stock length: 14 3/8" (365mm)
Original weight: 6 lb 3 oz (2.80 kgs)
In 1914 the gun was bought by a Mr. Denisoff who had an extra pair
of 26" (66cm) barrels made and the gun was possibly fitted with a new
stock.
The weight was increased to 6 lb 5 oz (2.86 kgs) and sling swivels were
fitted to both pairs of barrels.
Price $15 000

The modifications to the gun makes me think it was used for something other than shooting game.
It wouldn't surprise me if it turned out that Mr. Denisoff was a British Army officer & took it to France in 1914.
Young officers of a certain social standing often took their expensive shotguns with them into the trenches during the Great War, until the German snipers started targeting those carrying them: shotgun = officer.
