Tulsa is being a mother only when Zeus is hungry. Otherwise then that he hangs out with Cutter (the ol' man). Zeus is busy changing colors from his mother's chessnut and white spotted to his father's dark (liver) bay and his mother's white spots (we hope)...

Funny thing, I drove past a few properties where they had horses last night heading out to the sandhills. My grandson is such a city boy, we're heading back and it was almost sunset. I'd promised him we'd go to the drivein movie in the city so I was kind of hurrying. Anyway, we drove past this really nice looking sorrel, maybe 16 hands & well muscled. Obviously well cared for. He was munching grass along the bottom of a fence. Grandson asks what would happen if we stopped and he tried to pet the horse. I said, "Probably the horse would nuzzle you, but we're not stopping right now."

He looked terrified, I don't know what he thought nuzzle meant but I just laughed and said "don't worry that's a good thing." Think I need to get that kid out riding somewhere this year.

one of the many weird points i have, my kids may never be around a horse again in thier lifetime, but they both know how to ride, saddled and bare, with and without a halter as well! just one of the "useless things" I taught them, for just in case they need it..

Absolutely agree wtih Bushmaster (see! it happens!), there is nothing useless about that. I was thrilled to pieces when the grandson said he wanted to learn. I've ridden horses only occassionally throughout my life but have always been comfortable with them and been told I ride pretty well, certainly not an expert or anything, very much a novice I think. But, it's great to me that the kid wants to go out and try. We have a kid's summer day camp here and I was trying to coax one of the workers to arrange for all the kids (they usually handle about 25 kids at a time, two sessions over the summer) to get out and get a few lessons. There are plenty of places around here. My grandson usually spends the entire summer with me, so we'll be adding horseback riding to our camping, canoeing and shooting. I believe strongly that there's nothing better to raise a kid right than keep them active out doors. Also, I know that the lessons I learned from my Dad when I was six and younger are still among the most valuable I've ever learned, so good for you Morax!
