I concur with Bushmaster that the LeveRevolution ammo is a marketing idea, however, I hasten to add, it does improve those lumbering cartridges considerably.

We sell lots of this ammo in 30-30, 444 Marlin and 45-70 and much of it is repeat sales. Having been on the market for awhile, we are getting some good reports of effectiveness. IOW, they seem to kill game when the shot is well placed, just like the standard ammo, but, the per round cost is increased to do so.

My opinion is that the significant majority of game is taken under 100 yards regardless of species or where one lives*. Trying to add range to the aforementioned cartridges without attendant improvement in the accuracy potential of the firearms in which they are used may increase the likelihood of wounded game, however, I am sure there some exceptional rifles that could use the advantage of the LeveRevolution.

*The whole matter of long range shooting at game, to me, is a side of hunting that I find to be very narrow spectrum. Having competed in 600yd benchrest with some of the best shooters and sophisticated equipment, the thought of taking extended range shots on game with sporting rifles is, IMH&EO, the domaine of unethical fair chase hunting. I the years of guiding and personal hunting on my part, there seems to me to be no justification and the act of shooting game at such distances is reprehensible, unsportsmanlike and disgusting. Hunting skills include stalking close enough to make an assured single killing shot.

The majority of antelope in Arizona are taken under 100yds and some as far as 200yds. The average distance on elk? about 80 yards. Since archers in Arizona rack up impressive short range kills, how does one justify rifles in a long distance situation.

So here's the deal: we hear hunters brag about their long distance shooting capability ("I can hit a running deer at 450 yards with my 300 WhamBang anytime!") to which I offer this challenge:

I'll place a 12" paper plate at 450yds and the challenge is this -- I'll give you $10 for every hit on paper, your choice of hunting configured rifle from a hunting position (standing, kneeling, sitting) if you give me $5 for every miss. I always, always make money when someone accepts this challenge. Move to 350yds and I still make money. Move to 200yds with an 8" pie plate, I still make money.

Are there shooters that can beat me in this challenge? Sure. But, I just haven't met one yet. If you want to be the first and are visiting Arizona, give it a try.

Now, in the field with game sighted, add the matter of adreneline, varying light and weather conditions and the "fair weather challenge" above becomes increasingly difficult. But, hey, I got the cash ready anytime.

Handloader,

You make some interesting points, one thing you got to remember people in general not just hunters seem to double and triple distances when guessing how far something is, 100 yards is 200 yards, 400 is 800 yards etc. from my experiance anyways. Smile

I've been practicing on ranging by guessing how far something is then using a rangefinder, its helped alot. Smile

If the type of ammo increases the effectiveness and accuracy range of a rifle, then why not? I'm not talking take a 300 yd shot with ones 30-30, but if I can gain 50 to 75 yds, from my 30-30, from a new type of ammo, it's not a marketing ploy, it just makes it a 175 yd. rifle verses a 100 yd. rifle. And that works for me. This might not be the same comparison, but look at muzzle loading, they were a 75 yd. weapon, so why should anyone want one that can shoot 200 yds? Because they can. And still ethically kill humanely. My 2.5 cents.

I guess it would be up to the shooter if he/she would want to use the new ammo and get a few more feet of range. Personally I don't think I'll ever use it cause I know the limitations of my current reloaded ammo in my 45-70 and I'm happy with that. If I want more range I'll use one of my other guns. Besides you can not buy the leverevolution bullets to reload and I'm surely not about to use factory ammo.

That surely is a drawback for reloaders isn't it...Especially when I can possibly handload a better round using a Sierra 150 grain SPT. I like this better then the new Hornady rounds even if I have to load one at a time into the chamber and back it up with a 170 grain FNSP Speer...The best of both worlds... Very Happy

The other thing is, until I actually see some I'm not sure if I trust that little piece of rubber on the end of the bullet. How easy is it to or can it be broken off? Shocked

its not that soft and or flexable, if you break one off you were trying to break it off.. distance accuray and mushrooming are just some of its bennies, sure no reloadability but i am sure they will bring them out for us to play with soon enough.

this stuff is available to reload now. I have just brought 10 x 265grn .44 projectiles for my buddy to use in his .44mgnum rossi. why? because it looks to me to be more like a conventional deer bullet than the jhp he had that huge hollow point looks to big to my eyes I cant see them penertrating very far.
what results have you fellas had with these now that some time has gone by?/????

the .308 projectiles are out for reloading and the leverrevolution powder too!! anyone had a tootoo and tried it out???? YET????
my hunting buddy loves it in his 30/30 (sorry Bushy its a Marlin)
as for the .44 well Iguess they will still be waiting to be reloaded as the fella I got them for is pus%&whipped and his misses wont let him have his guns at home so he doesnt shoot much!!!!

To each his own. He can keep his Marlin and I'll continue to be very happy with my 65 year old "Jack Handle"...

Old posts never die! I thought the big benefit was being able to use a spitzer type bullet in a tubular magazine. The rest were concurrant benefits.

Our shooting here is mixed with both near and long shot opportunities. By longshot I mean out to 300 yards. I have shot one moose at 320 paces with a. 303 180 grain PSP. It was stationary and it was a clear, calm day. The rifle was sighted at 250 yards and checked at the range that week. This was a one time occasion and every other big game animal was within 150 yards. This year I will be still hunting with a 35 Remington and regardless of the load, mine or commercial no shots beyond that distance.

I may try the powder but it seems it is pretty close to CFE 223 and I have that on hand.

I sold my 32 Special. Doh!!
