Wow... color me shocked!

I was reading todays local paper and there was an article that caught my eye. The F&G wanted to remind varmint hunters that Utah has a closed prairie dog season that runs April 1st till June 15th! I havent hunted pdogs in quite a few years but I hadnt heard they had passed a law dictating season dates.

The rational was this: PDog shooting has become incredible popular and as PDogs only have 1 litter a year, they would close hunting during the time the newborns grow up enough they can survive on their own. Personally, I can see the rational behind this but I was still a little shocked when I read the article. They are still concidered varmints however.

We have alot of PDog shooting fans here. Any interesting restrictions in your neck of the woods?

Hey DallenC,
Come on down accross the border and shoot some dogs in Arizona. Nothing says no shooting dogs down here. And sometimes you get lucky and find a Coyote running the prarie dog towns Very Happy .
Take care,

I'd rather be lucky than good.

Was interesting to see a no shoot peroid on prairie dogs. Here in North Dakota there is no restrictions. But looming on the horizon are a lot of plans for a poisoning program to control them possibly starting this spring, I believe this may also be occuring in South Dakota. With the mild winter here the dogs have been out almost all winter and has afforded us alot of shooting oppurtunities so far this year. Not sure what the future holds for dog hunting here. Crying or Very sad Crying or Very sad
