Heavy cast bullets at moderate velocities often outperform their jacketed counterparts in terms of penetration on large game animals such as black bear and elk. There are numerous providers of good cast bullets and Beartooth, Dover, Idaho, is one of the great ones.
The selection of bullets is outstanding for virtually every handgun and rifle caliber. Ranging from plain base to gas check to long nose, to wide meplats, each order is individually cast to your diameter specifications. Slug your barrel, add .002" and you have a great starting point for some exceptionally accurate bullets.
I use the Beartooth bullets in 45-70, 348 Win, 44 mag and 45 Colt, all in gas check versions. Velocity can be equivalent to jacketed and leading is minimal.
Cost is comparable to jacketed bullets. Orders arrive within a reasonable time period. Then the fun begins.
If you have wondered about cast bullets or wanted a great selection of cast bullets, you may find the Beartooth website worth perusal.

I'm another fan of Beartooth Bullets, along with Jae-Bok Young and Cast Performance. For the 45/70, I like the Cast Performance .459" 420 gr. LFNGC bullet over 37.0gr. of IMR 4198.

Used to buy Beartooth bullets all the time. Then one of Marshall moderators decided he didn't like the fact that i called his favorite rifle 'junk'. Nixed me from the forum.....wouldn't buy a cast bullet from him now if it were the last resort. They were good stuff tho...........
