Varmints bit the dust at the 6th annual 3C's hunt at Millen, GA. Actually had a coyote taken by a Dixon County Tennessee father & son shooting team. Numerous crows spiraled out of the sky being taken by several shooters. Then some wild Curs were removed from the deer woods. 3C's means "Coyotes, Crows, and Currs".

Shooters and hunters were from Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, Virginia, and Tennessee. Previous hunts have drawn hunters from New York, Ohio, Kentucky, West Virginia, and Australia. Keep the event in mind next year if you are a VHA Member. The hunt and match is a good opportunity to learn the sport and meet some great people.

As for myself hunting luck was not with me. My electronic caller had to compete with some 'Illegals' music coming from the "Little Mexico Trailor Park" friday night and my other hunt setups were not productive. Lots of house cats and dogs were interested in the calls but not the targeted 3C's.

As usual the food was great. Fine meals of Bar-B-Q, Chili, and Moose & Caribu Stew. Very Happy

The weather was perfect for the hunt and match except for a 'little wind' for the SE VHA Shooting Match. The wind kept eveyone honest Very Happy We had many good shooters and Second Place was taken by a Georgia Shooter using an un-modified Savage 17 HMR at ranges from 25 to 200 yds. That fella put alot of good factory centerfires to shame. Hang your heads Remington owners. Razz Just kidding but that goes to show that a 17 HMR rimfire is a great varmint gun.

There was a 600 yd fun shoot after the varmint style match. First place went to a shooter from Savannah, GA who shot a 4.25" 3 shot group at 600 yds. We had two lady shooters that I wouldn't want mad at me. One lady was second in the 600 yd match with a group only an inch larger that 1st place.

A local resident won the rifle raffel. He won a Remington 700 223 with Leupold Scope, dies, cases, bullets, powder, and load info. It so happens that the winner is a large land owner not far from Millen, GA so we may get the opportunity to hunt new ground next year.

I was approached by a plantation owner. When I say plantation I mean a hunting plantation that caters to quail, deer, and turkey hunters. He has a coyote problem and asked if I knew anyone that could help him out. Shocked Laughing Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy Yea buddy! Very Happy Very Happy I said I might be able to help him out. He said "Kill them all!" I let him know that was a tall order and that no one has eliminated all coyotes anywhere but I was willing to try. Very Happy

Another friend of mine and Coyotehunter_1 loaned me his FoxPro Caller with Jack-in-the-box decoy, all remote controled. He said that I could keep it and use it as long as I liked. Shocked Shocked Very Happy

So I have a rifle, caller, and a place to go. I just need a partner to go with me. Help

Sounds like you had a pretty good, and productive, time Chris.

I'd be looking for some sort of cover mate Hiding for when the hordes start the rush to accompany you on a coyote hunt. Could get a bit rough. Very Happy Very Happy

Good luck with the hunt.

Cheers, Vince

Chris,
I'm glad you had a enjoyable time at the 3C's, great bunch of folks! Cool
I wish we lived a bit closer, it would be a pleasure to team up again. But...knowing you, my friend... I'm sure those plantation coyotes will be getting a good working over real soon! Very Happy

Good luck!

Chet
