so Im guessing root beer is what we call Ginger beer???? brew of ginger/sugar/fermenting thingy called "the plant" feed it water n sugar daily bottle it off with a few raisins/sultanas and enjoy in a week of two???
or is root beer alcoholic so he selling Dads home brew???

Elvis ,,,, just a little history on root beer ,,,, For the tea , we dig the roots after the sap comes down in the fall , let it air-dry for a few months , grew up drinking it in the spring as a blood thinner , we'd take a small piece of root on the end of a string and dip it in a hot cup of water with little sugar.

In earlier times, homemade root beer was made by fermenting molasses (sometimes mixed with honey) and sassafras root. Commercial root beer used oil of sassafras and safrole for flavoring. Artificial flavoring or safrole-free sassafras extract is now used commercially, and is available for sassafras candy and other sassafras recipes.

Sassafras trees are native to most of the eastern United States. The trees are typically 35 to 50 feet in height at maturity. Individual sassafras trees in the South, may be taller than this average. The spread is usually about 2/3 the height.

Ginger beer is a refreshing bubbly drink from mild fermentation of ginger root , yeast and a sweetener.
Root beer is something thats passed through the entire urinary system of a tom cat.

Never tried root beer, but I can’t say I find Sarsaparilla palatable. Love a good ginger beer and another one we have out here, although I haven’t seen it for a while is Horehound beer which I don’t mind. It’s usually alcohol free, but can be made alcoholic.
