Under New Zealand’s new mandatory buyback confiscation law, owners of semi-automatic firearms have until September 30 to turn them in. But based on this Reuters report, authorities are expecting only a fraction of those who own the newly outlawed guns to comply. Police Deputy Police Commissioner Michael Clement told a news conference on Thursday that they are not sure how many guns they would receive as New Zealand has no law requiring people to register firearms.

That is like what happened in Massachusetts. Only 15% registered their guns. In New York, the sheriffs in the northern counties said they would not enforce the new gun laws that prohibited AR possession.

yeah nah...not the same.... people who think the guns they own ,these MSSAs have for the most part been bought in last 10 years, most in the last 5 and shops are required BY LAW to keep records...so they will be traced. the gangs have openly said they wont be handing in thiers....they are illegally held now....
there is a lot of hype and hooplah floating about at this time....it will settle given time, the majority of these AR15s etc have come in through stupid loophole exploitation...we had ALREADY put laws in place to try to restrict them 20 odd years ago...what we seeing now is the dare I say it generation of folk who have got into shooting (note I said shooting not hunting) in the last 20 years who have bought into it hook line and sinker and are now squeeling fowl play.
