Thank you Vince! I'm going to try and have it finished by the end of this week, if at all possible...

Okay guys, I know this isn't much to drool over, but it's all I've got!

The barrel blank is a Shilen Select Match grade stainless barrel. The twist rate is 1-8". Overall barrel length is 27 1/2". Barrel diameter is just over 1.200"...

The muzzle brake is 1.00" in diameter, and one I made a couple of weeks ago, when I made the 1.250" diameter brake for the 300 Jr. build. Once screwed onto the barrel, it will add 1 1/2" to the overall barrel length...

The walnut forend is one I made a couple of years ago, and after this one, I said I would never make another one! I would rather be making metal chips and NOT wood chips! Once this forend has been pillar bedded to the barrel, I will put in the blast cabinet, give it a light "blasting", then paint it. My Contender rifle stock is black synthetic, and once finished, I am hoping the forend will have a similar look...

I should have the Contender barrel stub bored, reamed and threaded before the day is out, then tomorrow I will turn down the barrel shank, thread it, then chamber it for my 30X357 magnum cartridge. I'll then screw the barrel onto the stub, cut the extractor slot, then drill and tap the barrel for the forend. Somewhere along the way, I will cut the barrel to length, thread it, crown it and add the muzzle brake to it...

This won't be anything fancy, as I'm not going to turn the barrel and brake down to look all fancy and pretty, but instead I think I am just going to leave the brake at it's 1" diameter, and the barrel at it's 1.200" diameter...

I have been thing about what kind of optic to mount on this gun, and I think I am going to set it up for just a plain ole red dot, nothing more and nothing less. This will just be a plain and simple gun, nothing fancy...

I can make me a load book, and shoot all bullet weights form 90 gr. to 220 gr. using what powders I have on hand. Bullets 165 gr. and heavier will be ran sub-sonic, and all bullets lighter than 165 gr. will be ran super-sonic, and I'll see just how fast I can safely push them...

Deer Sniper, can't you make a pistol and carbine barrel out of the same blank?

Well....... I can make a 15" rifle barrel and put a muzzle brake on it to make it a 16 /2" rifle, than make a 11" pistol barrel. So to answer your question - YES!

Today's work -

The chamber is cut...

The barrel and stub are now fitted together...

The extractor slot has been cut...

The barrel has been cut to length...

My muzzle brake has been screwed onto the barrel...

The barrel has been drilled and tapped for the forend...

The barrel has been polished...

I got 2 pillars made and the forend has been pillar bedded and glass bedded full length...

I modified a Weaver base to just fit on the smaller diameter Contender barrel stub...

The stub and barrel have been drilled and tapped for the modified scope base...

More work tomorrow!

Everything is on hold!

My neighbors dog grabbed my little female cocker spaniel theough the fence by the face, and shook her hard enough to break her bottom jaw and knock out a couple of teeth!

Her little face is now in a brace to keep her jaw from just flopping around. She goes to a Dental Surgeon Friday morning to have a ceramic jaw put in...

Damn...that’s nasty mate, but dogs will be dogs and do what dogs do...not that it makes it acceptable. If someone knows their dog is prone to attack others, dogs or people, they should take steps to confine them and stop them from attacking others. Even something as simple as chicken wire on the fence would do the job.

Vince,

this dog has attacked children, killed other dogs and game animals! It attacked my other cocker spaniel a couple of months after I moved in my house! After this last attack, the lady that owned the dog, said it should have been put down a long time ago. When her husband got home from work, he put a bullet in the dog's head and took care of the PROBLEM!

Now, I just have to my little 1 1/2 year old cocker taken care of...

I suppose that’s one consolation mate, but still, doesn’t help with your young cocker.

Will your neighbours help with veterinary costs, especially considering the known history of the dog.

thats a rough break Mate, lets hope your wee lass comes through it without too many issues both physicle and behavioural. keep us posted..... must be a real mongrel to feel threatened enough to attack a cocker...they more likely to lick you to death than bite...

Little Tatu will be in surgery within the hour!

The dog that attacked mine was a blue heeler. This dang gone dog acted like it was demon possessed! This was one of the meanest dogs I believe I have ever seen!

The lady that owned this dog said she would cover our vet and doctor bill, but her husband is now telling us he is not going to pay anything! So, needless to say, we will take this to court and let the judge rule on this...

Rangi was one of the famous guides in our countries early years. great to hear she is on the mend and best of luck with the bill....maybe stick copy in thier letter box and see what happens...maybe get vet to address it and send it directly to them.... worth a crack.
