I finally, after just over a year, saved the money for the new LabRadar chronograph.
I am over-stoked like a speeding train!
I have the owners manual downloaded and have been trying to memorize the setup process.

Paul,

The guy in the brown truck dropped mine off today. Now if I can get the weather to cooperate.

I started working on a prototype bench mount for it over the weekend. Had a bunch of unistrut leftover from a different project and thought it would make a decent mount.

It’s a lot wider than the final product wil be, but I wanted to play around with some different ideas I had for the piece that actually carries the unit before I settled on the final dimensions. As it sits, it is 36” long x 15” wide.

Here it is with a piece of 1 1/2" angle and a Vortex Summit window mount

After all that, I realized that the taper of the Labradar was pretty close to the strut, so I taped an old piece of toolbox drawer liner over another piece and ran a 1/4-20 bolt up from the bottom.

Any thoughts or suggested improvements would be greatly appreciated.

Another thought I had...

There is probably no reason to have the strut AND angle bolted together. I removed the strut and mounted the angle directly to the frame. This lowered the unit by about 2”. Also. I can make the angle any length I want and use the window mount to quickly move the radar closer/farther from the muzzle as needed, including cantilevering out over the edge of the bench if needed.

I finally received the foam inserts for the Ridgid storage box that will be home for the unit.

HJ:

Looks great.

Don't use a window mount, because it adds instability to the unit.

I suggest that you go with the first picture, except you could shorten the length to 24", leave the width alone.

Add 4 leveling screws and a 2 way T level.

Like this, only cheaper. I paid $6 for mine.

I have had mine out a few times and it is GREAT!
I made a bench mount from a 10" x 12" x 5/16" aluminum plate and the gimble mount from Lab Radar. It has a bubble level but when you aim the radar at the base of the bullseye it isn't level anyway. As long as the radar and gun are aligned with the same target it al works fine. I found out that my 22 inch 257 Roberts was shooting at 3300 fps with a load that was a full gran UNDER the max and realized why I was having a hard time finding any accuracy. I have to reduce the load to find an accurate load.
The radar, battery pack and cabling fit nicely into the case I bought but the bench mount is carried separately.
I do have to remember to use the setup to change bullet weight and firearm type when I switch guns to get the right energy and power factor readings but it registers the velocities just fine when I forget.
I downloaded the information from the memory chip into my computer and it didn't skip a beat. The Linux software handled it just fine. As long as you have software that reads the spreadsheet file it provides you with data from muzzle out to where it hits the target or loses the bullet in the background noise in under 1 yard steps.
This chronograph is a real keeper!

Hunterjoe, looks like you are ready to go. The muzzle location relative to the unit is an important setup parameter. My unit is always out in front of the shooting bench. The platform for the LabRadar also holds my sandbags and rifle so I have enough weight to hold it secure from wind and suspending out in front of the bench. How will you secure your unit?

I cut a different set of cross members to reduce the width which should give me more room on the bench. With this set-up, it is 7.25" wide. This is with the "carriage" in storage/transport position.
