The amount of snow certainly means different things in different areas. It's not unusual to see 6"-12" of snow in this area during a storm, but a 3' snow fall is a big problem and one we rarely see. The most I remember here had more to do with drifting and we had 5 1/2' drifts in our 600' driveway. What amazes me is the panic buying that occurs the day before a storm. You would think that milk, bread and eggs will never be available again.

BigBlue,

Yeah it's crazy to me how nuts the east coast goes when a storm is predicted. I don't think I've ever seen panic buying for predicted bad weather around here like I have back east. Different mindsets I guess.

Laughing I lived on the east side of insanity for awhile when in the military. The mindset that I saw for the most part with most people was that they would only buy their groceries for a day or two.Either that they wanted fresh or that they did not want too much stuff in the cupboards that would'nt get used.In their way of thinking I guess they believed that would save them money.I have to believe like the Mormans.Stock up,and rotate the stocks, and when the SHTF-there is still food on hand, and just about any storm can be survived.I buy bulk,I can fresh stuff and store,I am able to pressure cook many things and can,Mc Donalds is only for city folk survival!Smoking ,drying, jerking, and oldie fashioned food storage is still "in vogue" at my house. It seems to go hand in hand with guns and reloading! Now if I could just get my still put together!!! Embarassed

Other than milk and eggs, we have enough food stored for about 4 months or more. For a change, they underestimated this storm. My coal stove is going so it's toasty warm in the house, I have a pot roast going all afternoon, the snow looks great from this side of the glass and I have no place I need to go. Life is good!

I'll send a fleet of these to help you stay mobile.

Then you won't have this.

Go BIG or go HOME! Here's how they do it around these parts. Its really impressive to see these in action, 2 trucks can clear 40ft in 1 pass... at 60mph.

I've worked with these RR jet powered snow blowers in the past. They run on kerosene and is the loudest thing I've ever heard. I wore foam ear plugs underneath ear muffs.

Seems like that would be good for ice buildup... but over kill for just snow.

We have a similar arrangement out here that is used to dry off the drag strip in even of a rain shower...works a treat.

Mostly used to clean out switches.

Was wondering about the ballast "discharge" watching them work on the yards...then saw 'em working in a residential area...must be a mess afterward

Yeah that's what I was thinkin, that the rail road ballast would be blown out but maybe it's frozen enough that it sticks. Looks like it melts as well as blows.....

funny that sounds like a friend of mine.....
