Ive seen that done.... and whats more when Reg needed to get dozer past digger he reached over the side and dug bucket in then drove digger out till only 3 cleats were still on surface then drove dozer past...... that man is in 60s and young wife still popping out babies,not to mention the motorbike racing..... yip some fellas have large ones and nerves of steel.

Not a chance in creation would I build that road they couldn't pay me enough...nor drive on it when it's finished. I notice they didn't show the size of the drop off...maybe it's only a few metres, in which case it would be an OK job.

What I can't understand is why he cuts it only just wide enough for his excavator to fit in the track. I would have thought that he would make it, oh say...100' wider. That way, if the edge crumbles, it won't take him and the excavator with it to the 'hereafter'.

we had roads like that on our farm...well on the back of it. made with man power during the depression. pick and shovel all the way. huge sandstone/papa bluffs with road cut into them for returned servicemen to get to farmland (that was later abandoned).

The reason the road isn't made wider is because if it were wider it would necessitate an overhang above the road. That excavator can only reach so far. You wouldn't want to be under the overhang when it let go.
