Looks like we'll soon be leaving Ohio and moving to the Great Falls, MT area. Not sure if any hunting will be in order this year, but was wondering if anyone here had any suggestions on places in the area to start scouting just in case.

Thanks guys...can't wait to get settled and start exploring the area! Always wanted to visit Montana, and had hoped to someday retire there. Hopefully I'll have the good fortune to finish my career there and enjoy it for a long time afterward.

Don't know if that'll be necessary...
en.m.wikipedia.org/wik...in_Montana
Referring specifically to the number of craft breweries per capita, that may due the fact that thare are fewer than a million people in the entire state...but I certainly wouldn't refuse the shipment!

That's a pretty big move HJ, and from what I can see it is an entirely different environment so you will have your work cut out for you developing your hunting skills. All the best for the move mate, I'll be looking forward to hearing how everything goes. |
Somewhere around 1800 miles, depending on where we land. Gonna be a huge learning curve going from a state with whitetail deer as the ONLY big game animal and shotgun only restrictions. I'll finally have a chance to utilize the rifles I've been collecting over the years. Now I gotta teach the wife to shoot a rifle. She's always been afraid of anything with a scope.

Congrats, Montana is a beautiful state and your going to love it. There are three states in which I always thought I'd like to retire, Wyoming, Tennessee and Montana.

Good luck with the liberals... its nearly as bad as california.
As for hunting, get on the montana fish and game website ASAP and see when their big game application periods are. Most states in the west require you to draw tags from a lottery. Some states such as mine, the app period has already ended. Wyoming Elk already closed but deer/antelope is still going for a short time, not sure on CO or MT what their dates are.
Edit: Looks like you got time... although I have no idea what a A or B license is.
