Oh same here Vinnie but that's not what I'm referring to...and maybe I've gotten a bit fuddled about the subject, but I was talking about immigrants that invade our shores from foreign countries, not welfare recipients begging for more handouts. Excuse my rant, if that's where I went with this because really the welfare state has taken over this country as well, and it seems our current regime has made it policy.

Matter of fact, our now socialist economy has overburdened us to the extent that those who voted for it have now had a change of heart. It seems if hurts them, then something has gone wrong. Our recent health care foray into socialized medicine has even hurt those who voted for it and now they see the light. We're not playin chess here but those that think everyone should be on an even playing field didn't seem to notice there would be any consequences. I've never been good at chess but even a monkey can see the fallout from this ideal. We have the same problems as you with out of work (for a career) people who are paid for being dopey and paid to live in what we call government housing. Those that choose to not have an address have risen in numbers because of the burden of the welfare state and our horrific economy and I have to add also we have a legal system that now has the burden of the mentally ill. If you do a crime and you're mentally ill, they'll send you to jail, not the hospital. Release from jail after medication therapy results in return visits because they can't find work and don't have money for meds. That's our way of treating the mentally ill now.

There is no lesson to teach the (career) welfare recipients. They live in a bad situation of violence and drug abuse, killings and murders. If you were in that situation right now, you'd find a way out. They don't even think about it. It's a career for them that has been learned over generations. Like pigs, if you give them more they'll take more.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not so soft about boat people either, when in fact some countries tend to send criminals and deviants out into the abyss with a one way ticket, but those that are in need should be respected for what they've gone through to get here. If you were ever to decide to relocate via an overloaded boat full of unprepared mariners I'm sure there'd be a legitimate overwhelming reason for it.

Sorry I poo pooed Elvis and Radar (I shouldn't have used names anyway) sorry sorry I thought immigrants were the target and I'm sure they are sometimes, but I have to sympathize after seeing the devastation in hurricane news lately. Why a people would feel safe living on a beach is beyond me, may as well find an active volcano to raise your kids on.

I concur with Radar/Vince/Elvis in as much as both in Canada and in the US there has been scams for insurance fraud same as the lebonese crooks are doing in Oz in NY and all along the US eastern seaboard and also in Canada especially in Ontario and to a less degree in Quebec. As for a socialist economy or Obama care. If the republicans put as much effort into supporting universal health-care minimum standards as they do in bashing the President, they would truly have something to be proud of for generations of Americans to come. Someone in the Obama administration or the public service should have their ass kicked and then kicked again for hiring CGI as the service provider to set the Affordable Health Care website. These are the same A-holes that claimed the long gun registry in Canada would be 3.5 million to set up and then cost us over 2 BILLION for something that still didn't work. Make no mistake about it, Republicans don't want Obama care to work because by and large it is republicans who are making millions of dollars with the status quo. It is a national disgrace for people to die because they don't have health insurance. it is a disgrace for a man/woman to work an honest days work and be paid a starvation wage. I was in the Canadian military when we were paid so little that we had married members taking annual leave in hour and two hour incriments so that they could go to their second job and to the food bank on top of it all to feed their families. The Liberal government didn't think there was a problem until by chance a reporter doing a story interviewed a soldier at a Vancouver food bank and inquired if he was there to make a donation and she was told that he was a user of the bank and then pointed to his friend and neighbour and RCMP member out of uniform doing the same thing.

Suz..there is an Island nation in the pacific that has more of its population in Auckland city NZ than live on the island. we have upteen thousand islanders living here to collect the dole payment which they send some of home each week. I have to earn that money for the govt to tax it off me to give to them. you yourself had a rant awhile back about how much taxes are taking of the average working person. I would happily/willingly pay 60% tax on every dollar I earned...IF my purchases werent taxed at 15% fuel and beer are even more. my medical expenses and kids education were paid for by the state and I would be looked after in my twilight years.
we are burning the candle at both ends borrowing to give money away we dont have in the first place. yes people hit my disasters are in deep doo doos...but why do I have to pay for that???
Im already paying to help rebuild Christchurch city after the quakes, I object strongly to paying for overseas aid when we have need in this country where money would be better spent.

Foreign aid, my feeling is give help when needed ie the Philipines atm or the tsunami 9 years ago.

We are currently in a shitfight with our northern muslim neighbours, who hate us with a passion, but have NEVER been known to refuse any of the help or money weve sent them. Personally I'd cut ties with the pricks altogether and stop all money, investment, food going their way. And reinforce or northern and western borders, they really hate it when the people they're picking on shoot back.

Gettin a full bucket of...stuff here..well first off it seems the Republicans are making buckets of cash off the status quo. The thing about Liberals is they don't like anyone making buckets of cash, they bad mouth big business for making the American dream come true. They embrace class warfare and demonize corporate America whenever they want to spook the public into accepting sweeping expansions of government.

Corporations are designed to make a profit while delivering value to their shareholders, and by doing so they drive economic growth and all the good things that come with it. Why do they love government but hate business?

As for our health care being a disgrace, we happen to have the best state of the art health care in the world. A nationalized health care insurance that not one Republican voted on is a disgrace. It's not the cost of insurance after all, it's the cost of the care. The Republican side of the isle has been opposed to the unions getting special treatment and government officials and their staff getting special treatment, union insurers can amend their coverage. My insurance company can't. I also can't keep the coverage I already have (as promised) and my healthcare cost has gone up $200/month (not down as promised). There are many many things wrong with not being able to read the documents before voting on them. This was shoved down our throats....and yes it is something to oppose. You actually stated something that this health care is not and that's minimum. A female has to pay insurance for prostate exams, and males have to pay out of pocket for maternity care. My thought is minimum would be more like catastrophic coverage in time of need. This ends up being full coverage for everything of any gender, covering all the bases and at a huge price by all persons. What ends up happening is the yougest of the population will be supporting the oldest (who are on medicare and heavily subsidized). The youngest are going to opt-out and pay the penalty (which is more affordable) so that makes the rest of the population pay higher premiums. It's all a mess and needs to be better thought out. This thing was contrived by someone who he himself admits never read it, and said it's a train wreck. Republicans are not opposed to universal health care and there's been tons of Republican input to improve it and none listened to. You have to hear both sides to hear the truth and then you're going to be left guessing what the truth is.

The starvation wage deal? Well if you wash dishes for a career do you think you should be able to have the same lifestyle as someone who drives a truck or commercial fishes or teaches for a career? I think you've overblown something into something it isn't. The beauty of our freedoms in the USA is that you have the ability to make something of yourself, if you apply yourself. You also have the ability to make a career move. Did you join the military without knowing what the wage was going to be? Did they feed and shelter you? Provide you with health care? Give you clothing? Did they also school you or teach you a trade? I'm not being flippant, it's just that I was also in the military and I know I was eligible for welfare as were those with families to support. The bottom line is, that small stipend you received was a bonus actually, because all your essential needs were taken care of. They don't have to buy you a car, buy your booze and ciggies, make sure you're sitting pretty, because that's not why you're there.

The dramatic plays brought to you by network television involve Liberals always being the victoms and Conservatives always being the oppressors. Until you get over this hurtle of deciding the truth or what the truth is to you without the aid of television, you'll truly never know. The media in the US is aiming to always speak for the "little guy" and berating those who they call the "powerful". They are the most powerful force in the nation. The relentless partisanship of the media makes alternative news sources necessary and if you don't seek out another side to a story you may as well be just as informed as your neighbor's dog.

Elvis I don't know what to say. Yup we pay dearly for other people's folly but do you want to be left on the side of the road to starve to death? or may we help you back to live again? I feel the same way, the tax dollars spent on foreign aid is tremendous ($259 million NZ and $23 billion US) also there's people and schools and infrastructure in our countries that don't have the dollars. What's worse a pot hole in the pavement or a bunch of dead bodies you make the decision and see what happens. I'm not socialist in thinking but this isn't sharing the wealth either. We are a planet and a people, we choose who we care for too as a leverage for what we want. We give for more reasons than life. Egypt, Jordan and Pakistan don't like us, but they get foreign aid dollars. We're advancing US strategic interests with dollars like that. Don't know about NZ. Back to the pot-hole and dead people, as they're the political reasons, gotta feed the victims, there's always victims to feed too.
