The left wing media here has just reported that 3 kids in e USA have shot their siblings over the last 3 days.
WTF is going on?
I have no issue with teaching children how to shoot, I have a massive issue with leaving a firearm AND ammunition in the presence of unsupervised children, some as young was 5.
This is 3 shattered families and 3 dead kids, TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE, you guys NEED to get your poo in one sock and get this sorted out, this is happening on a weekly basis.
If you are going to teach your kids to shoot and buy them a firearm, fine, be an adult and SUPERVISE them during this process, AND THEN LOCK THE GUN AND AMMUNITION AWAY SO THEY DONT HAVE THE OPERTUNITY for tragities like these to occur.
Bear in mind the negative is ONLY side of firearms ownership that will be reported.
You guys arent doing yourselves any favours.
FIX IT.

We had a child kick a parked running car into gear which ran over the mother in the driveway, killing her.
Parents need to parent. You dont leave kids in a parked running car alone, you dont leave them alone with loaded guns, you dont leave them alone near swimming pools... its sad but ITS THE PARENTS FAULT!

There is IMO a huge difference between gang fights/drugs/crime and unsupervised young kids accidentally shooting a sibling because the parents are to stupid to walk and chew gum at the same time and leave the gun , ammo and unsupervised child alone with each other.
I have calmed down and sobered up from last nights rant, chill pill now effective.
Maybe I'm just shocked at the numbers you guys seem happy to tolerate, same goes for your road death stats, but you are roughly 15 times our population.

The liberals (they ain't; they're socialists) have been preaching for years that the state can look after peoples' every need, thus destroying any sense of responsibility among much of the population.
This of course makes it far easier to blame an inanimate object for the tragedy than to point a finger at the damn' stupid, ignorant parents who failed to secure the firearm.

I've only seen one incident recently where a child accidentally killed another child, I think a 5 yr old shot a 3 yr old. Not downplaying it at all but wondering about the numbers. The US has about 600 accidental gun deaths a year, among an estimated 80,000,000+ gun owners. Compare with 32,000 accidental auto deaths among 210, 000,000 licensed drivers.

I believe that the parents should be brought up on charges of child neglect in cases involving siblings that young shooting each other. Before my kids were strong enough to pull a trigger (3 years old) they were taught that you had to check and clear the gun before you could handle it. They grew up thinking that was just the way it was done. I admit that I taught them from a very early age the proper handling of a gun. They never pointed the gun at a person - even when they had checked and cleared it because "guns are always loaded" was the mantra. They were shooting with me at the police range by the time they were 7 or 8 years old.
Guns weren't an object of fascination to them. They were always around when dad was and if they wanted to handle it all they had to do was ask. Then they had to unload and clear the gun. I have to admit that it was a lot of work for them but that work helped remove the fascination of "the forbidden" object. It was always accessable so it was no big deal.
It worked for me - we never had any accidents.

Started my kids with BB guns until they demonstrated they could follow safety rules. Then used a .410 because the 20-gauge would knock them down they were so small.

yes it would be interesting to learn the facts. We already know that hammers and bats kill more people than rifles. Hands and fist kill more people than rifles. How many siblings kill or injure their brother, sister, other child with a knife, etc. I once had to block a fork stabbing of my 3 year old daughter from her 4 year old cousin. I was keeping an eye on the 4-year old because I didn't trust him. When I saw him walk out of the kitchen with a fork in his hand, I immediately went defensive and got to her just in time. Me and junior had a little talk when mommy and daddy weren't around.
