I would assume that you could print out the authorization from your computer and take it with you to buy the gun - or transmit it electronically to the seller.

We have a similar idea here in Australia for different purposes. Many employers demand a Criminal History Check from the Police, similar I believe to what you guys know as a Background Check.

To get the check here in Australia, you attend your local Police Station, hand over a fistful of dollars and they send off to get your check done. There are various levels of check, with various fees of course, depending on how thorough the check needs to be, i.e. State, National etc. When completed you pick the completed check up from the Police Station, or they can send it to a third party from memory.
