well I finally got an overnight leave pass from SWMBO so the lad and I headed up to my buddies place for a 2 day hunt Very Happy .
to say we had a blast would be putting it mildly, my son has now fired at a plurry good stag twice, I had a go aswell but he vanished without a trace Sad I had a really good look around but couldnt find any blood so we may have both completely missed (what a balls up) I will go back and have a sniff around in a few weeks to see if he piled up further down in the thick bush Embarassed If so I should be able to find the ripe carcass Sad .
never mind such is hunting if we didnt have days like that it would be killing not hunting.
we went back to the same spot this morning and spotted 2 hinds in the same place!!! wtf so hatched a cunning plan so the lad could get a crack at one of those. the plan worked to a degree as my buddy walked over a ridge and sent the two hinds right into our carefully laid trap. the lad got 2 carefully aimed shots away at 100yrds but alas he didnt connect Sad I fired the old cannon and dropped the bigger of the 2 like the proverbial stone. we watched the other hind mill around and got to within 30 yrds of her before she realised we were there and moved off. my son made me very proud by letting her walk away as we already had a deer and the other can live to get fatter for another day. my buddy managed to get his jeep to within 100 yrds of her so it wasnt a huge deal to drag her out/up to it once we had removed the poohs n wees bits.
got her back to the hut had a lovely cuppa tea and I broke hind down while my buddy cooked up the bacon n eggs for brunch Very Happy
my lad was a great help swinging a switch to keep the flies away while I did the knife work.
we got home at a reasonable hour and both the kids gave me a hand to process the meat(freezer now chocker) while my lovely wife cooked us a BBQ tea. venison patties no less. rifles cleaned and put away, cloths put through washing machine and all my crap put away already.....man its nice to be organised for a change Very Happy .
130 grain rem corelokt went straight through with minimal meat damage. took out 1 lung and clipped the heart (too low I know).

Well done Elvis...you done good...I'm jealous mate.

I spent Easter in the southern part of New South Wales. I took my 91 yr old Mum down there to see her two elderly sisters and brother, a round trip of just over 2000 kilometres. Whilst down there I had a look at a couple of places where I used to spend a bit of time hunting for rabbits and fox.

Definitely no shortage of rabbits, foxes or kangaroos down there, I saw plenty, but unfortunately I was unable to take a rifle. Oh well, next time...I know they are there.
