My first deer rifle was a 250-3000 savage rifle that was excellent for deer hunting using 100gr bullets. It also doubled as a fine varmint rifle when using the 87gr loads. It anchored all the deer I shot at, my only regret was selling this rifle. Mad

Here we go! My thought was to use the 120's seated out. So why not the .257 Roberts? Short, cute, petite, actions! Kinda the same allure as a BRNO 22. If you like your rifles short light and "classy" (many definitions here) and still plenty of room to not have bullet in the case past the neck. Here YOU go. Mine is a whippy short barrel on a short foreend with a schnabel. And a oval cheekpiece. Classic old world style.

80# White tail dont count. Shocked

Laughing

And I can safely say I have regreted at one point or another every firearm I've ever sold. That 3000? Never seen one, read about them and less I miss my guess that was a cool and unique shooter and I think you shouldda kept it!

Simply put ........ ya don't need anything bigger !!!

Was thinking about using the 6mm full time but there's things I don't like about those bullets for deer. Don't get me wrong ....... I would take a 6 to the woods any day with the utmost confidence.

Thought about going with a Roberts, here to I would go with AI chamber. With the Roberts you can get into OAL issues depending on the reamer used and magazine box length.
Some guys build Bobs on long actions for this reason.
Bottom line, I just find the .250AI more appealing.

I'm planning on using 85-100gr bullets, TTSX, B-Tips or bonded SST's
I use 120's now in my 7mm08 and believe they are more than needed.

Schnabel fore end .......what's not to like ??? McMillian makes one but man they expensive !!!

Fixed it for you . . .

The one rifle I decided definitely not to part with, my Weatherby 300 Mag. I would have kept the 204 Ruger if I could have afforded to, but my Weatherby wasn't going anywhere, no matter what.

horses for courses guys, millions of deer have been shot over here with the ol.303 and in later years the .308 .270 and last but certainly not least the .223 and humble .222 but the caliber you choose is a personal thing, sort of like something else rather personal size doesnt matter, its not the size of the dog in the fight its the size of the fight in the dog. its not what youve got its how you use it. one reason I personally wouldnt choose a less common calibre is the horrible syndrome of getting a few hours from home on the way to a hunt and realising the ammo is still at home... pess a sports shop or hardware store her in NZ and the .243/.308/.270 user has a good chance of finding some on the shelf.

More than needed? Are you losing a lot of meat when you harvest a deer with the 7mm? Your going to see that much difference between a 7mm-08 and a 250 AI that its worth 4 Grand?!?!
