Author: deermanager, Posted: Sat Nov 12, 2005 1:03 pm ---- Over here in the Uk we are always permitted to have Silencers fitted on our Centrefire rifles as well as rimfires and i would go as far to say that virtually knowone buys a .22 rimfire without a silencer who is not a target shooter.
The way you can get your law changed is to from the health and safety aspect. Take it to court and argue why should you go deaf just because you want to go hunting? It worked here, Categorize the silencer as a sepeerate firearm accesory that has to go on the liscense with its own serial no. to cut down the no. of them fallling into the wrong hands.

Besides with the number of rounds I run through a year, I would have to open my own silencer shop just to keep up with me.
If I am not mistaken, silencers, like full autos, are not actually illegal. Just a huge amount of paperwork, licenses and taxes to go through to get one.
Besides, the anti gun nuts would have a field day with it. And the first time some one misused one, the uproar would be never ending.
Besides, I thought you were not even allowed to have a firearm in the UK these days. I read the Olympc shooting team has to go elsewhere to practise. I also heard the Olympic commitee is trying to get the UK to change its laws so they can have the shooting competition in the same country.

Realistically firearms equipt with silencers have their ballistics significantly altered. This is not critical for work that is up close and personal, but, for high powered rifles the results have rapidly diminishing returns as the distance is extended. But then we get back to the issue of rights.
I can make a good case that silencers should be legal and readily available to those that wish to use them. And, further, a good case can be made that those that wish to restrict a citizens access to firearms and accessories are the very people about whom we should be far more concerned as to their intelligence and agenda.
