Quote::
MEXICO CITY - Acknowledging a Mexican drug war that is "sowing chaos in our communities," President Barack Obama signaled Thursday he will not seek the reinstatement of a U.S. assault weapons ban but instead step up enforcement of existing laws against taking such weapons across the border.

Despite a campaign promise to see the lapsed ban renewed, Obama was bowing to the reality that to do so would be unpopular in politically key U.S. states and among Republicans as well as some conservative Democrats.

Great news! Both from gun ownership as well as allowing gun and ammo shortages to hopefully diminish as people take a breather from stocking up.

I do agree with that. However, this hysteria of a weapons ban that is causing the current run on guns and ammo, is really just hurting ourselves. I've talked with several other fathers looking for just .22 rimfire ammo so they can take their kids shooting. Its just not to be found. This is frustrating familys as well as individuals and could potentially turn off our youth to shooting if it becomes too difficult to introduce them to the sport.

A well armed group of 60 year olds just aint going to cut it long term for our sport. We cannot afford to loose the youth if we wish to remain strong as gun owning citizens and sportsmen.

vint2, agreed, I still keep listening for the other shoe to drop.

Dallan, agree with you too, need to keep the kids busy and there's no better way than with shooting sports.

Very sage comments Dallan. The coming generation, our children, are the basis on which we must build the future of our sport.

We only need look at other sports to realise the truth in this statement. I think you guys call it Little League...kids playing baseball, then there are the football teams, for every code, Little Athletics...our up and coming Olympians of the future.

In Australia, kids have involvement in every sport, and there are competitions involving a full season for each and every one of these sports, and at every age level.

Yes, without the involvement of our children, our sport will die when this generation is no longer capable of participating.

It behoves each and every one of us to introduce our sport to every child we possibly can...if for no other reason other than allowing them to grow up with a realistic and honest view, and understanding, of firearm ownership. By doing this, we will create a generation of people who do not see firearms as nasty weapons and may very well reduce the ranks of the Antis.

Cheers, Vince

I don't think we can trust Osama much . After all , Hillary always blames Americans for the violence in Mexico due to our " gun smuggling " and drug use . I really don't think that RPG's , Ak-47's and PKm's get to them via USA .

Obama wants a second term. Don't expect him to care so much about what gun owners think during a second term.

Dallan,
You are 1000% correct on all points!!! We need the youngsters and new blood in general to keep our sport alive. We also need to see an end to this buying madness!!!! It is not only 22 ammo that you can't find, it is a lot of military stuff and they (retailers)are making excuses that it is going to the military. People that I know are going bonkers trying to buy components and it is not good for us!!!!

They do not have the votes to put anything through at this time and they know that !!!

We have also done a good job making them understand what political suicide means !!! Very Happy

But don’t let your guard down, they will pick a time and place to try something. Mad

I am not convinced that Obama cares one bit for our gun rights. When it is politically expedient, I believe he will act to reinstitute a much broader assault gun ban.

The current flurry of gun and ammo buying is due to a fear of a major ammo tax being imposed by the current administration. Winston Churchill said the power to tax is the power to destroy. Take care...
