#1: New Equipment Author: moose2, Location: North IdahoPosted: Tue Jun 07, 2005 6:59 pm ---- For the first time in better than a month was able to get out this afternoon to do some prairie dog shooting. Had shot my Savage .223 with the new Mueller tactical scope a little at the shooting range. Had a good try out in the field today. Not a lot of dogs out but managed to get 3 at 330 yds. and one at 416 yards. Tried several at 500 yds plus but only got close. Also tried out a new rangefinder. Had been trying to buy a Leica off E-bay, but was not successful. Opted for the Nikon 1200 but now Nikon isn't sure when it will be out. So in frustration I ordered Bushnel new Elite 1500. From what I had heard from other forums, no one was very impressed with any Bushnels. But I wanted a rangefinder. I must say that this Bushnel is very good. In target mode I was able to range dog mounds out to 583 yards. which was the fartherst I tried. Also on the way out ranged a lone antelope at 780 yards. Herford cows were good for 800 plus yards. Even ranged one flying canada goose at 162 yards.
For the money this Bushnel is a pretty good buy. All in all I was very pleased with both the Mueller scope and the bushnel rangefinder. They work for me.

Glad you enjoyed your day out. I like my Busnell Elete 4200, good clear optics and repatable scopes.
Keep working on those dogs!

Good Shooting.
Thanks for the info on the rangefinder. I always wonder how the other products work but, can't afford to buy one of everything.

What caliber are you shooting the dogs with?

#6: Re: New Equipment Author: calsibley, Posted: Fri Jul 08, 2005 8:35 am ---- Congratulations on some excellent shooting. My longest shot is usually about 300yds. My .22-250 will reach out further than that but that's about the maximum limit of our fields where woodchuck are found. You always remember those exceptional long range hits. They're really something special. Best wishes.

Better be carefull about ranging on those Herford milking deer! Folks get downright IRATE when they see you doing it.
Ask me how I KNOW!
....
I had to tell them that I was practicing by surveying the property. A soft answer turneth away wrath.
I'm still trying to get used to my Bushnell Yardage Pro, and haven't done anything real with it yet, but is seems rock-solid out to around 500 yards on all kinds of targets, milking deer included, and it was dead cheap. (The product literature says 300 yards on deer, though, so maybe I've just been lucky.)
