Author: glockman55, Location: MichiganPosted: Sat Jan 21, 2006 12:09 pm ---- My average shot with a muzzle-loader is about 75 yds. scoped. We hunt alot of woods in Mich. Its our late season and we usually push sections to each other, a three or four man drive works best for us. It seems like every other year I'm taking my scope off and using open sights, good for thick cover, no good for open feilds.Open sight average shot is about 50 yds. or less.

Like Flinty, I have made some shots that were a bit out there and one shot that was under 4 yards (for you eastern guys . Head shot on an 8 point Blacktail. Western guys...3 point). The longest with my 'Jack Handle" was 200 yards and as some have stated should not have be attempted with a .30-30 under the conditions that the shot was made. But the Blacktail went down. Probably due more to the Remington Core-lokt and a bit of luck. With the .30-06...Around 300 yards...

Author: farrier, Posted: Sat Jan 21, 2006 1:37 pm ---- I don't think that I have shot but one or two white tail over 100 yards away and they weren't much over a hundred either. Most of the deer I have shot were in the 75 to 100 yard range, probably more of them at 75 than 100. I have shot some real close out of a tree stand bow hunting, like the ones that was were almost under me.
coyote is another story I have only shot one that was very very close, all of the others were 100 to 200 yard range. The one that was close I shot him with my 357 Mag at about 10 feet while deer hunting. I was sitting against a big tree and heard something coming through the brush behind me, eased my pistol out and when I poked my head around to see what it was, he got a bullet right under the chin.

Author: Bushmaster, Location: Ava, MissouriPosted: Sat Jan 21, 2006 5:17 pm ---- He has to go where jeeps and other four wheel drives fear to tread and can't go...He is used for High mountain trail. He is my four wheel drive...He has been on several ocasions up to 8,000 to 9,000 feet. He spends several (6) days on lava and lava flows in the Three Sisters Wilderness in Oregon each year and spends many days traveling the High Sierras of california...I hunt from him, I camp from him and I just enjoy good friends and rides from him...The shoes must be put on right and tight...He is not a yard decoration...He will be 21 years old in May and he is a tough ol' hoss...If you need an idea of what he does...I have photos...

Author: farrier, Posted: Sat Jan 21, 2006 5:24 pm ---- You probably put borium on his shoes, that stuff sure does get a bite on slippery rocks, or ice, or pavement, its just good for traction. If ya don't you ought to ask that your farrier about it. They are a little expensive but you can reset them for a long time. I had better try to get back on topic I have never shot anything off of my horse, have you shot anything off your horse, if you have how far?
