I take it its a similar principle to the old .22 being able to shot .22 short ,long and long rifle?
The difference being in the case lengths?

Oh, and youve done it again, nice work as always

Pete - there is NO difference in case length. All 3 cases are the same exact length, and all 3 cases headspace off the case mouth.

Elvis - I have had more fun with gun than what I have had with other guns in many years! And like I said in my first post, it is quiet and has virtually no recoil! In fact, I shot next to a guy at the range that was shooting a suppressed 300 Blackout, and my gun was actually quieter than his shooting sub sonic loads!

Maaaate...once again, you have achieved to a high standard. What is the base gun? It looks similar to my single shot 20g shotgun. Looking at the pics, it looks like you have put a .45 cal insert into the barrel.

I could see this rifle in .38 Special (+P of course), .357 Mag and .357 Max.

Very nice work mate, and as usually happens, I am drooling into my keyboard.

Thank you Vince, I appreciate the compliments!

The gun is an H&R and WAS chambered in 270 Winchester.

The barrel is not an insert, but is built by my patented method of barrel stubbing, meaning that the factory 270 barrel was cut off in front of the chamber, then internally bored, reamed and threaded. I then take a barrel blank and chamber it, thread it and screw it into the barrel stub until it butts up against the breech face. I then cut the extractor groove, cut the barrel to length and crown it.

This barrel is 16 3/4" in length and 1.00" in diameter.

I also adjusted the trigger to a very crisp 3 pounds, as well as pillar and glass bedded the forend.

Not really needed, but I modified the base and barrel to the larger 8-40 screws and bedded the base to the barrel, for a rock solid mounting of the scope. And even though felt recoil is less than that of a 223, these guns shoot more consistently if they are SLAMMED SHUT, and not babied like a T/C Contender or Encore.

The factory barrel also had an ejector which never worked properly, so I changed it over to an extractor so I could use all 3 cases, and have a specific load and velocity level for each case, which is why the gun is listed as a 45 Auto Rim / 45 acp / 45 Super.

I do a LOT of H&R rifles like this in 357 Maximum, and it is more popular than all other cartridges combined! And of course with the 357 Maximum chambering, you have the ability to shoot "4" different cartridges - the 38 special, 357 magnum, 360 Dan Wesson and of course the 357 Maximum.

Other favorite chamberings I do on the H&R platform is the 7X30 Waters, 250 Savage, 257 Roberts, and various 444 Marlin based wildcats. All in all though, I can do over 100 different chamberings in this single shot, as well as most other break open rifles.

I do a lot of inserts as well, with the 2 most popular being the 25/20 and 32/20. These are built around the H&R / NEF single shot shotgun barrels, as long as they have properly fit to a rifle receiver. The Model 158 shotgun barrels are real popular in these conversions, because most all of these receivers have the smaller "rifle" firing pin, and not the big fat rounded shotgun firing pins.

Didn't mean to get carried away - sorry!

Thank you Mr. Martin, I appreciate that!

I wend back through my records, and I show 32 of these rifles made and shipped to various Hawaiian Islands over the last 20 years, and the name for this particular gun/cartridge combination has always been the "Hawaiian Hog Whisper", which is what is stamped on the barrel, and logged out of my books as.

Some of the places the guys hunt over there, according to my customers, is close to populated areas, and with a .45 caliber slug at 950 fps., they don't have to worry about upsetting people in the communities because of the quietness of the gun, and those sizable slugs in a hogs head will normally anchor a hog in it's tracks. One-shot one-kill and everybody's happy!

I'm going to have to quit viewing this thread. I keep drooling all over my key board. Bit of a pain drying it out each time.

Bushmaster - I have been told that either a hair dryer or a heat gun works good for drying drool off of keyboards! Smile
