Case length trimming?

Have had my RCBS lathe type since 1982 or 3. hasnt given any problems, but will need new cutter head as its getting harder to cut now.

That's over 18 cases a minute, Jeebus! Don't get yer tie caught in there!

I can crank out about 5-6 pistol cases a minute on my Lyman Universal using the hand cranker. 1 or two more if I use the power head. Get's old after the 10th box, and the mess.......shiny brass curly stuff everywhere.

Holy smokes that giraudtool is a trimming maaasheeen!

I purchased a RCBS Case Trimmer 2 in 1986 and haven't looked back.

An interesting post with plenty of good info for those that hand trim, file, or just throw cases away when they need to be trimmed.

Got to admit Stovey, my 1950's and 60's stereo equipment with the old vacuum tubes sounds better then the new stuff I got. And I've got plenty of new wiz bang gizmoes here, but, to my ears, the old vacuum tube players can't be beat for faithful reproduction of music.

Well I had a good shooting run on my range. Went through 150 .357 magunum in three revolvers, 50 rounds of .38 also in a forth revolver, 100 rounds of 9mm X 19 and 50 rounds of .45 ACP.

All have been deprimed and tumbled. Now I will measure all but the .45 and 9mm. Trim all 38 Specials and .357 magnum toat require it to insure crimping.

Finished priming 300 cases. .357 Magnum and .38 Special. Just threw the .45 ACP's into the tumbler.

Let's see now. Oh yeah...Time to select the powder and bullet for my .357 and .38 loads. I'll be going with 14 grains of 2400 and a 140 grain Remington SJHP for the Colt SAA. 18.5 grains of W-296 and a 140 grain Remington SJHP for the Ruger Blackhawk. 7.7 grains of W-231 and a 140 grain Remington SJHP for the S&W Model 19. And for the .38 Special I was thinkin'.................................Say....Does anyone have a good load for the .38 Special using Clays? Hodgdon recommends 3.7 grains for a 140 grin bullet. Been experimenting with Clays. Seems to be OK[a bit dirty though] at 25 ft and not as good at 50 feet in the.45 ACP.

Well back to card p.....Reloading.

I don't take "naps". I do, however, check for light leaks on occasion.

I tried H110. Found That I could get the same velocities with 2400 using less powder (15 gains versus 18.4 grains). And 100 fps faster with W-296 with the same powder charge (18.5 grains).

Sooo No "whimp" here...

Same Vel. with less powder? That means less case filling and poor accuracy. Are you loading inaccurate rounds again??? Oh and here we go with the speed-weenies again....

That 140gr bullets too light for that slow ball powder. Try 800X, unless yer going for all out MAX. Blue Dot's bout as slow as I'll go for light bullets (whimp) and even then it better be at least a 6" tube.

Fer 38spl I dont us Clays.
Use Unique for soft cast loads, Red Dot for wadcutters, 700x for CPRN and jacketd stuff- all work very well in short tubes. Fer +P I'll use W231 if I recall, it's been a while.

Light leak check time! zzzzzZZZZZZZzzzzzzzzz....
