As happens alot since I hit 60 I seemed to have made an error in an order from Cabela's. Instead of ordering 50 grain A-Max I ordered the same but moly coated. Does anyone have experience with these? Any special considerations in handling, seating etc.? What about the bore cleaning? I use Hoppes #9 but I have read it won't clean moly well if at all. I've also read everything is used from hot water to atf/acetone combinations. Help greatly appreciated Shocked

Hmm. Seems I wasted $30. I don't mind the extra cleaning but can't understand why I can't return to regular bullets?

The moly coats the barrel, some time taking a dozen bullets to complete the coat. Once the barrel is coated, it has the same affect on non-moly bullets. You regular loads were developed using an uncoated barrel with associated friction/pressure. Now take your non-moly bullets and shoot them in the moly coated barrel and pressure won't be as high, velocity will be off, and POI will change. I've used moly bullets before but stopped using them just because of this aspects when I added some new rifles to may collection. I didn't even factor in the other aspects.

Never use acetone to clean metal parts / guns. RUST is sure to follow.

Okay I read the post referenced by Omnivision1. I decided I needed to try some of the bore cleaners mentioned there and in other posts, other forums etc. I really wanted to try Wipe Out but it isn't stocked here so I settled for Hoppes Elite. The pump is manual, the nozzle a rectangle and the tube round. It leaked like a shook can of beer and I couldn't get it into the barrel of my 223 except with a nylon brush. Yes it seemed to clean the carbon off but next to no copper. Another $12 wasted. My local gunny said he would try to get a supply of Wipe Out and Patch Out in for me. I am trying to avoid the bronze brush but I can see copper in the barrel. Anyone got some favorite copper cleaner I can try. Nothing exotic as I won't be able to find it here.

I use Bore Tech Eliminator, has no ammonia........ won't clear your sinuses like other cleaners do but does the job on copper !!!

I don't care for Bronze brushes either......... I use a Nylon brush.

BoreTech

Nylon Brush

I also use Sinclair bore guides in all my rifles !!!

+1 on Bore Tech. I use this and it is amazing. A superb, no superior, copper remover. Got to use a Nylon brush or you can't tell if the barrel is clean or not.
