Elvis, I assume you are talking about Hornady's tip bullets for lever action - tube magazine rifles? I don't load or use them but I understood from Hornady that they plan on expanding their use to GMX copper ballistic tip bullets because they get better expansion - min velocity goes from 2000 to 1600 fps. What is your reservation in trying them?

I've tried them, and it seems to me they don't perform as well in my 30-30, that is, I don't get very tight grouping. Don't know anything about the reason why, but the rifle seems to like Sierra 125gr flat nose hollow points better than anything. The Sierra bullets are very effective too.

I have no interest in the Hornady 160 grain flex tip bullet for use in my Winchester Mod 94. Reason? Why do I wish to improve a rifle that is already well ballanced for weight, speed of action, accuracy for the range intended for said rifle? Besided...As stated in past threads. When you are getting 1 5/8" group (consistantly) at 100 yards with 32 grains of W-748 under a 170 grain Speer Hotcore flat nose bullet in Winchester or Remington cases running at 2000 fps. What is there to improve??

Suz, what kind of 30-30 do you have? Was it a Marlin with this micro-groof?
In my short Winchester this 125 grs FN HP of Sierra is also doing great, but I like the 150 grs FN of Speer with rather fast powder (N120) better.

And just my feeling, but I don't like flexy ti.s Smile
look at someones face when he puts it outside a carwindow while driving rather fast. And now think what shape this flexy things get at bulletspeed. Maybe I'm old fashioned and thinking wrong, but for some things I trust a hard golfball more than a soft tennisball.

I too have tried the hornady flex tips and accuracy went south real fast. Went back to the old tried and true IMR 3031 with 30grs for the 170gr bullet and 31gr for the 150gr bullets either rem core-lokt or speer fp. Notice the numbers, coincidence maybe?

My rifle is the Marlin 336 30-30 with the micro-groove and even shoots cast bullets with good accuracy provided the b/n hardness is 10-12.

my buddy has a 16" rossi .44 magnum and the lods he has with the huge hp dont look right for deer so I have brought a sample pack of 265 grn flexi tips to try. now the load info I see says the 225 grn is for .44 mag and the heavier is for .444 . I think that is why the 265 grn has 2 canalurs for 2 different loading depths.

Elvis

I bought 2 boxes of the hornady 265gr interlocks last year for my sons rifle, one box had one cannelure and the 2nd box had 2. Thinking they might have made a mistake on shipping I called Hornady. Very nice people I spoke to told me they added the 2nd cannelure with this bullet weight to accommodate the 444 cartridge. The first cannelure is for the 444 cartridge and the 2nd (top) is for the 44 mag. Hope this helps.

Aloysius my Marlin is a micro groove model 336 (same as Omni) and I'm loading 34grs of BL-C(2) with the 125gr flat nose hollow points. Might just be a matter of spending some time and bother to figure out the flex tips but I feel like BrushMaster, why frig with something that works and works good. They kinda make you skittish when you load em in the tube anyway, you have to push that point right into the primer ahead of it and (at least with mine) you have to push real hard. Is it worth the extra 50ft of loft you might get?

Slimjim...Not sure I understand the (2) question. Accuracy? 1 5/8" three shot groups at 100 yards. All in the 4" black dot. Velocity? 2,000 fet per second +/-50 fps.

all things are relative. those velocitys and group sizes are great for a 30/30 and any deer will be deader than dead within 150yrds.
A man useing a .12 ga would only dream of those figures a fella with the latest 3456 wizz bang superduper may scoff but I know who my money would be on to bring home the venison.

Suz & Bush, I have to agree: never change just for a change, only change to improve! (and as long as you're satisfied with the results... why always look for the limitations and try to reach another limit? When you get my age it's easier to remember 1 limit and stay under it Smile )

Or with other words: when you want your 30/30 Win shooting flatter and harder, better take the 30-06 or the .300 WM...
