Here's some pics of loads etc. and data.

Note the 68gr RE22 primer. Perfect. Not even a hint of pressure. Boxes were clean too- no ash. I think I might play with the RE22 some pretty sure the ideal is 67.75gr. 68gr had a little more recoil than I like when target shooting but both the 67.5 and 68gr RE22 would send them right on top of each other when I held still enough and that's why I shot all 4 of those as the other two were wild. Sierra says accuracy load is 69gr. It's already accurate, more so than I can hold and the recoil and blast with these cases would take some of the fun out of it and increase wear on the rifle and cases. So either way I now have two loads that will work very well w/o resorting to bench-rest type preperations I can esilly duplicate with a handloader as they are neck-sized only, will save wear on all compenents and is clean shooting. My goal was to work up some reduced loads that saved wear on stuff, with decent pressure for clean opperation that was accurate to 600y. I'm most of the way there and once I've doped the drop for the last couple hundred yards I'm good to go.

I'm pretty stoked. I've only had this rifle out a handfull of times, and, it's been over a year since the last shoot- but, the set up is coming into it's own.

Happy Happy! Very Happy

Another thing I noticed while cleaning the pistol is with that polished bore D&T did the fouling is WAY down. I ran 50 rounds through it. No copper in the bore to speak of. It was clean in 5 mins.! I'm going to swab it again in a few days to see if something works loose but, gotta love that!

Turner's Outdoorsman has a Howa Tactical .308 with a 16x scope and 20" bull barrel and Hogue stock for $560.00 that's really begging for me to spend my truck tire money on! I saw it yesterday while getting some H4831 and man, it's a bute!

Nice primer Stovey...colour matches the case nicely, it is the right diameter for the primer pocket, has a lovely dimple from the firing pin...oh yeah, and it isn't showing any signs of pressure as best I can see mate.

yip that primer looks fine to me too.
sounds like a .308 will be in the cabinet soon more fun breaking the barrel in then fine tuning some loads, great excuse for some range time.

wow, thems some real earsplitten loudenboomers, and I dont mean the ackley 22 round. I mean loud, as the old Steppenwolf song.

I have never been to a rifle range in my life. I always shot at my parents or friends places who are set up to shoot at. But after seeing the photos of that range, I might have to check one out soon. And just to meet the people there would be cool too. You can always learn from others.

How do you like the sks? I really like mine, but mine is still stock as a rock too. The only thing Im not fond of is the stripper clips and wish it had a removable clip. but I can live with it the way it is.

the photos are great, and the wood on that old muzzle loaders is beautiful.

Thanks boys!

Aye Danny! But I love stripper clips! Love shooting that old tank too. Last iron sighted rifle I have and I have to use a Merrit device to get a somewhat sight picture cuz my eyes are toast. But it's a hoot to shoot off-hand @ 2-300y, super heavy and zero recoil.

And I only go to this public range on weekdays. It would be a HUGE mistake to go on the weekend. Takes on a whole different flavor- as in all the gooofballs that learn about guns from watching TV come out of the woodwork, I think you know what I mean- even the range officers laoth the weekends. During the week the more disciplined gentlemen (not I) come out and shoot, discuss, have a cup, relax, compareetc...There's some truly old school guys there too on the highpower side. There's also several private ranges there one can rent for a reasonable fee. Pretty good deal.

And I want that new 308!
