Went to the gun show today and bought me a "new old stock" Lyman Orange Crushe for $120r.
I think it is the newer type with 7/14x20 thread directly on the press.
I believe the older type have BMG thread and an adapter is scewed in to use standard dies.
I am planning to make swage dies to modify some factory jacketed projectile to suit my need, and the press is to be used as a swage press.
I got a choice between this one or a couple of RCBS Rockchucker.
Choosing between them, I thought the orange crusher have larger "working area" and a tiny bit more robust.
I hope I pick the right one.

gelandangan, doesn't sound like you can go wrong either way. I wasn't expecting to hear that Austrailia has gun shows with all their other firearm restrictions.

Slim, we still got a few very limited gun shows here.
Mostly it is a gathering of 20 or so odds and ends sellers, sorta like flea market type.
Most guns on show are moth eaten rusty guns with a very small proportion of new stuff vendors showing their new products.
Its pathetic, but its all we got.
Chambered, I am experimenting to built a better mouse trap.
I want to make a very heavy rebated boat tail jacketed projectile with huge gaping HP for my whisper.
And, if possible, I would like to try my hand into swaging 22 cal proj with 22lr case as jacket.
Others have done this I know, but I have not.
Well, it is a want, not a need..
In any case, I got a nice and sturdy press that hopefully will serve me for a long long time.

gelandangan, you appear to be a cornerstone in the foundation that is preserving the firearm tradition in Australia. Make sure you pass it on!

Slim, I am unsure as to what you meant by the above words.
Like most firearms in Australia now a days, I am an "import" model, so traditions on my part is less than the time I spend here.

Would I be correct to think this has more to do with internal rather than exterior ballistics ???
I'm assuming that a long range trajectory isn't the focus.
If so why not just use a flat base bullet ???
Sounds very interesting please allow use to follow when you start your development.......unless your going to patent your work I'll understand !!!

Hi Chambered,
it is actually external ballistic I am looking at.
I want to achieve something like this Lapua Subsonic projectile,
or from some Finland experimenters notes
but with a large gaping hollow point, instead of sharp point.
This is the air flow that I want to achieve is the one on right
you can see that the cone at the back actually create less turbulance and thus effect to the stability in long distance.
Corbon made something like the one I want, but they wanted an arm a leg and one half of my mortgage for the dies set.
Besides, If I make them myself, then I can modify them to my heart contents.

Very interesting........feel free to elaborate more on your goals and objective.
I guess you could say I'm intrigued by all this simply because of the 221FB !!!

looks like a worthwhile project.
I have heard of guys using projectiles BACKWARDS with subsonic loads this could be why. I guess you could put a heavy projectile in a drillpress and create a hollow point with no bother.

Geland look around, I think somebody in your part of the world is making bullets with a rebated boattail.
but their site is down?

Aloy yes, there are a lot of makers making rebated boat tails.
However, they are expensive and usually they have minicsule hollow point or FMJ.
And they are usually made in mind for supersonic purposes.
Making my own maybe could cut down cost, but definitely I could experiment for most optimum projectile shape for my style of shooting.
Besides, it will amuse me and keep my blood pressure down
Elvis, yes I have tried drilling with HP drill jig, spinning them in a lathe and of course cast them with HP pin.
However, swaging them would guarantee most uniform result both in shape and weight.

It seem like Austrialia is doing its best to not make shooting easy. Guys like you, that keep the sport alive are the foundation. Then to make your own bullets and use them to fill the freezer, you're a cornerstone.

Your right Aloysius, but you can use Google's cached page which is Here
And one more proof Australia is blocking websites. Here
Since Australia is now using content blocking by orders from the big brother, a lot of web sites will be off limits to the people in Australia. This started in 2010 and will only get worst.
