A while a go I was advocating the use of ethyl glycol for the occasional errant neighborhood cats that 5h1ts on your gardens.
Out of advicement from our resident pumpkin-hater (Mike) I did not do it ,
and I continue to suffer in silence, the frequent unwelcomed aromatic addition to my weed garden.
Since a week before Christmas I sort of noticed that the cat was not around,
and nor did I see any unwanted offering left in my weeds.
Today, coming back from work, I was a bit curious and sort of inquire around..
One of the neighbors inform me that the said cat was mauled to death by 4 dogs last month...
I expect to feel elated to hear the end of my tormentor, instead, what I feel is a sense of loss.
No longer I have the sport of chasing it out of my garden, nor I get any exercises (bending down to pick the droppings) whenever I go out of the house.
I cant believe it.. I miss the little 5h1t !!!

What you won't miss Gelan, is the thought that the little prizes left behind (from the behind) by the cat won't be tainting your food!! That can be a real poison to you with potatoes and any root veggies. I had a cat problem in my garden and I ended up making a tent out of fencing wire (chicken wire over here) to keep the playful poopers outa my veggies. They can't get near my inviting stirred up dirt now.
I have a pellet gun to keep them at bay too but I can't be out there at night, and actually I've never caught one in the act anyway. They're tricky buggers.

I found a 30/06 while maybe a little light, works well on cats. I have to admit, I did feel a little remorse but it didn't last long.

A neighbor suggested to me years ago is to put in one of them solar powered electric fences, who knew.....it worked wonders with chicken wire around the garden and have never had any problem since. Although we do get a laugh once in a while when having a bbq and the neighbors dog or cat bumps into the wire, its priceless to watch them jump. Thing is, after once or twice, they learn.

Now don't be confused. I have no problem with eliminating a nuisance critter, it was the method that I'm opposed to. Having watched our pet cat after she got poisoned with antifreeze I know that there are more humane, and discriminating, ways to take care of the problem.

I have also been known to eliminate the occasional nuisance kitty. The last one was tolerated until it beat the snot out of my furry little mouse trap. That cost me a 100 dollar bill at the vet, plus a 10ga shell. Aggressive critters are not allowed here.

I don't have a problem with eliminating troublesome critters...of any ilk...but I am never happy with the thought of using poison. Unfortunately a small poison bait becomes a large poison bait once taken by a bigger critter. Using something like ethylene glycol is not something I would do...there are much more humane methods. Its not the killing, its the method.
Grumps...all I've ever felt when tapping a feral cat is recoil mate...nothing more, nothing less.
Wiersay...I agree mate...aggressive critters and bloody cats that SPRAY!!! Nothing worse than opening your front door in the morning and being hit with a wall of stink from an overnight cat spray mission. As soon as I identify them, they are on my 5h1t list and their days are numbered.
A $100 vet bill is not nice...but wait till you are looking down the barrel of $5,000!!! We had to opt for euthanasia for our family cat simply because of the cost.
Cheers, Vince

All things come to those who wait.
I had a neighbours cat leave messages on my car bonnet and windscreen.
As well as the garden.
The good wife would often ask 'why is that cat still alive'
But I had seen what a loved pet it was to the neighbour and
I didn't have the heart to touch it.
They moved. Problem gone. Patience paid off.

gelandangan, I had an unwanted cat like yours a few houses back. The cat would also nestle in my patio furniture leaving a deep indentation in my papason chair. I could never get out the back patio door quick enough to douse him with water. So the cat continued to watch me through the kitchen window and “laugh” at me. That was until one day I bumped my backside into a prickly pear cactus and got an idea. I broke off a piece and placed it at the bottom of his favorite resting place. I never saw that cat’s tail again!! I just imagined how those spines tickled his underside!!

Slim...that is a classic mate...that really appeals to my warped sense of humour...a bit like the squirrel catapault I saw on Utube. I reckon the cat would have moved even quicker than the squirrel.
My Dad had a good system he used on cats he caught in his orchid house...it involved a pillow slip, a piece of garnet paper and a bottle of metholated spirits. Catch the cat, put it in the pillow slip, grab the tail and bare its butt...some quick firm sanding of said region, pour metho over it and drop it from the pillow slip. Its rare they came back.

Vinnie your Papa was sanding a cat's patootoot? Ok I want the video of that one. I like SlimJam's idea of cactus spines, wonder if some velcro would work? I have catz parking on my car at night to keep warm, I could put some velcro strips on the hood and let'm sit on that for a second. I think that would work! They don't like stuff stickin to em. It wouldn't hurt but it'd sure irritate them.....easier than puttin one in a sack, sanding it's bottom and all.
Ok just thought of another one. You could put the velcro strips on the car and tie some string onto the velcro, so when they jump off the car the velcro yanks off and you can re-use it. Now I want the video of that one!

So how come I never get these exciting tips when my tormentor still alive?

heres a cure for cats.
Use a possum cage trap to catch yer cat or any other critter.
Once caught urinate on them, yep give them the old golden shower - show them whos the boss. If its a pesky neighbourhood Tom cat give them a coat of flour after the water works. (Vets hate this when puss gets bought in for a shave)
Trust me they aint never coming back!
and yes I have used it.
But the best part?
I got this little hint from an elderly female neighbour, she said it worked a treat - and she'd used it herself.
Now. Pick yourself up off the floor, wipe them tears away and start trapping and peeing.
