Its impossible to make girls happy. I'll figure out how to make the sun shut off before a man figures out how to make a women happy. Shocked

Considering my dean is a women, I doubt that prank has the same effect. Very Happy

Ah Mr D... you must have missed the key word "dreaming"..

It is as in - at one stage of my live I was dreaming to own and shoot a Dillon mini gun..
or dreaming to live where gun ownership is embraced by society..
It is the dreaming that made the whole kaboodle fun..

So, I reiterate.. instead of dreaming to re invent the wheel, or ram gates..
spend your tender young live dreaming on how to make them girls happy..
It is a good dream.. make you sleep better too Laughing
ask any of the other ol farts around..

Dimitri,
It would be faster if you used hydraulics and you could make it without using any transistors.... Size is still a problem ........ and, of course, speed.

Geland,

No point dreaming for the impossible now is there?

Paul,

Due to the response time of the relays I'm looking at 1-2Khz in speed that I could run the processor to access that RAM.

Actually I went to a all transistor based method of saving data, by "cheating" in a attempt to produce a floating gate like Flash RAM does, which means that this would be RAM with the ability to "save" the data for short periods of time. Will have to figure out just how much time that is though, if its too much then the processor speed will have to go down. If its too low, the data will disappear before the processor accesses it again.

By the way, I'll email you a sketch today/tomorrow about the motor design we were discussing. There has been progress on that front.

Dimitri

Mr. D.
Everything starts with a dream..
just over 100 years ago, it is impossible for human to fly, all they can do is dream..
Wright brothers dreams harder than others, and now we fly..
Unless someone dreams, it IS impossible.

Well that would make your pneumatic computer just about 1/10 as fast as my first computer. The TRS-80 ran at around 2 MHz. I imagine the ram clock speed was about 1/4 the processor speed.
I look forward to seeing what you came up with from the scratches I sent you on the motor.

When you talk about relays and cycle times don't forget about life expectancy. I've seen several times where people used mechanical relays that weren't fast enough and also where they were fast enough but wore out in no time. If you could get a relay to switch at 2kHz it would last around 2 hours.

I never think of it but you are right pumps!
2hr at 2khz is 14 millions clicks... 28 millions flex each way.

It needs to run for like 1 minute demo's to show what relay memory can do.

Over the summer I designed a 65C816 computer board over the summer, when I get the chance I will have it made cause I think it would be cool. Still designing the board was relatively straight forward, as there are many reference designs online for computers made out of them.

Problem with the TRS-80 and similar computers based on the Intel 8080 (and in relation the Z80) is that its designed to take 3 clock cycles to preform a read or write operation. And since they had virtually no catch relying on the RAM for register storage, it took 3 times as long to do something on the 80 type CPU's then it took on the 6502 or 65C816 which could preform a I/O and RAM cycle in just 1 clock. Which is why the 6502 got a "good" reputation among hobbyists. Regretfully, the Intel x86 line took over with the IBM PC and the rest is history.

It would be a inserted card with the relay RAM so I'd almost use it as a Output that is visual more then RAM for the system (I got 4Mbyte of RAM in the card I drew up over the summer)

Still Paul, I will be building a mock up of your device. Just to figure a few things out.

Dimitri

Glad to hear it Dimitri. I look forward to finding out what the relative power output is. I want to make a long range all electric car!
