I dont post much, but I thought I would share my thoughts with ya'll.My old dog is named Buddy. We've had him for just over 15 years now.his hair is thin,he has gone deaf.He hurt his back jumping off of our bed to keep from landing on my youngest daughter when she was a baby. When we lived in a bad neighborhood he always barked when he heard something that was'nt right. He used to have the most beautiful bark.He sounded like he was 4 times as big as he is.He's a rat terrier he sleepswith my wife and me every night. When I work late he won't go to bed till I get home.If the kids spend the night away he goes to thier room in the middle of the night looking for them.My kids have never been with out him .He's not much of a kids dog though,I think he is jealous cause he's supposed to be the oldest kid.I tried to to teach him to squirrel hunt a couple of times but he would run back and forth to me so I would follow and lead me back to the truck.I watch him avery day and wonder how much time I will blessed with his life.I am so thankfull that the Good Lord led me to him.A fellow I worked with at the time took me out in the sticks to his granddaughters house and I gave a 50 lbs bag of dogfood for him.Whom ever said that choosing a dog is the only opportunity in choosing a family member sure was right.I don't think I will ever be this lucky in choosing a fiend again.I am sorry to ramblebut a dog is the only friend who will never let you down.He will forgive you for whatever you do and will always love you.I pray that when he goes that he dies in his sleep and I don't have to have him put to sleep to end his suffering as he is getting older. Thank You agin Lord for my Dear Friend...

How sweet! Great photo too, he looks like fun. I love dogs too but don't have one. Most of the time I live alone and I always figured if I got a dog it would go nuts by itself and I'd be coming home to an idiot, starved for attention. I don't want to do that to a dog. HHhmmm maybe I should get 2?

rdw, I know just how you feel, there is nothing like a good dog and its so hard when you know that the time has come for them to move on.
Suz, we had one "inside" Brussels Griffon and, when my wife thought she might have to spend the whole day in the house alone because of my schedule changing, we got her a pet. Another Brussels!

Oh that's a cute dog Pumpgunslinger! Little mustacheo and all. (I looked it up) You wouldn't let it chew gum I bet, or sip a milk shake.

rdw. I put my old fella down in July and it was a real peaceful thing to do, I loved my old labrador but he was struggling, I too hoped he'd drift off in his sleep but it went pearshaped one morning and i had to make the decision. Our vet was fantastic, we got the whole family round, said our goodbyes, shed a few tears and stroked him while the job was done, he just wagged his way to sleep and never woke up....real peaceful. Sometimes I wish we could do the same to people we love instead of seeing them suffer too. Its a shit of a decision to have to make but I'm sure what will be will be. Take care - Radar
Yep - 2 months on and it still hurts!

Rick,
I made an album up of all the photos we got of him - didn'yt realise how many we had. And he's now got his own pic in our hall of fame/shame at home.
Take care

Had a pup like that once, black and tan, what a neato guy. Super smart, never tires, just a trooper. He was a freebee but worth his weight in gold.
Beautiful and touching post RD, accurate too.
