|
A trucker hauling a load of computer parts is driving through Silicon Valley and stops at a bar. He pulls up a stool and orders a cold one. While he's enjoying his break, a computer geek walks in and orders a drink. The bar tender stops wiping the bar down, casually reaches under the counter, pulls out a .44 and blasts the guy.
The truck driver flips out and asks "What did you do that for?!"
The bar tender calmly responds: "We have an overpopulation of computer geeks here in Silicon Valley. We're overrun. It's been declared open season. You don't even need a license."
The truck driver is floored. He finishes his drink and gets back on the road. As he's cruising along the interstate a computer geek dashes out in front of his truck. Instinctively, he swerves to avoid him causing his rig to jacknife and eventually overturn. All of the sudden it seems as if the foilage at the side of the road has come alive with computer geeks. They storm the truck grabbing computer parts and dashing back into the bushes.
Upon seeing his cargo being looted, the truck driver reaches into his cab, pulls out his gun and starts blasting away.
The local police show up with sirens blaring and guns drawn. With his hands in the air the truck driver says:
"I thought it was open season on computer geeks!"
The Sheriff responds "Sure, but it's illegal to bait 'em!"

Now now, from what your describing there should be a open season on Nerds not Geeks, there is a difference.
Nerds are those socially undeveloped who live in their parents basement unmarried idolizing Capt Kirk or Spock which everyone likes to make fun of, while Geeks walk among us and generally live normal productive lives as normal as anyone else. Similarly generally nerds are Trekkies while geeks are Trekkers as we are not stupid enough to dress up in Star Trek uniforms and make up fake lives to "role play", we just like the movies and the shows.

I'm confused...
Is it a Nerd or a Geek that knows the difference between a "Trekkie" and a "Trekker"?

Geeks & Trekkers = socially developed normal people with a technical background that watch a TV show
Nerds & Trekkies = socially undeveloped unnormal people who live in their mothers basement while acting like and believing they are part of the TV show dressed up in a costume.

Sounds to me like "Trekkers" are splitting hairs trying to distinguish themselves from "Trekkies"...
(I believe the proper term is "abnormal" by the way)...

wiersy111,
Its important to note the difference. One of the few things that gets my blood boiling is being called a nerd.
However you can call me a geek if you wish.

Its a good show. The original one more then the new one, I watch the new one when its on and I am flipping through the channels but can't really get into it. Babylon 5 was really good too my favorite actually. But if we talk too much about them we may confuse people so easier to give the Star Trek example.
