magnum vrs. large rifle primers

Be careful here. The Hornady reloading manual warns (example - for the .300 WBY Mag) that using large rifle primers instead of large rifle MAGNUM primers for cartridges with a large volume of powder can cause hangfires due to incomplete initial ignition of powder. Exteremely high pressures may result.

Also, most manuals agree that for the same type of primer, Winchester primers burn hottest, Federal and CCI are in the middle and about the same, and Remington primers burn the least hot.
I haven't experimented with this to confirm (mostly because finding the full variety of primers on the shelf is darn near impossible these days).
