If you are shooting a rifle with some recoil, eye relief is a must. Also, I think there are better reticle out there for long range shooting. There quickly becomes a point where errors in range estimating like this are greater than the trajectory of the bullet can handle. Deer chest depth may average 18" but they can vary from 12" on up. That all contributes to ranging errors that a good laser range finder can eliminate.
For the price you pay for them, I'd consider at Bushnell 6500 2.5-16x 50 with a mil-dot reticle. You can get them on-line for under $600.
