|
I went to a gun show in Greensboro, NC yesterday and there was a pretty good selection of guns, ammo and reloading supplies. Some of the prices were still high.
There was also plenty of Ruger LCPs and LCRs at various dealers. I picked up an LCP for $300. Then I found that no one had .380 Auto ammo... Testing will have to wait a bit. By the way, the lock that came with the gun is heavier than the gun itself.
We asked an ammo dealer why they didn't have any .380 and he said that sales of "pocket pistol" ammo were pretty brisk. Apparently with concealed carry increasing lots of folks are using little handguns.

Is it shiny???????
.390 ammo is very hard to find, as is .380 brass. They are a fun little pistol to shoot. Good luck.

Didja order the Crimson Trace grips for it yet?
One of the reasons we purchased the LCR over the LCP for thw Wife's PD handgun is that many of the local shops are still imposing a "two-box-per-week" limit on .380 ACP ammo. I've not seen any such limits on .38 Special ammo, even during the height of the ammo run...
And I have hundreds of .357 Magnum once-fired brass. Won't take much to make 'em useable for the LCR...

Pumpkinslinger,
Congrats on your new LCP. Sorry about the .380acp ammo thing. Maybe you'd be able to find some 9mm Kurz, 9mm Corto or even 9mm Browning Short ammo for it?
I was talking to my local gun dealer the other day and he said he had pulled a lot of ammo off the shelf, .380 being one of them. He said it's become so hard to get that he's keeping a supply on the side so that when someone buys a gun in that caliber he'll be able to offer them the ammo for the gun. I had been looking at buying a new Ruger Single-Six Birdshead .32 H&R Mag. Very nice looking revolver which would have been a great woods carry along piece. After seeing the lack of availability of ammo and brass, for that cartridge, I decided I'd have to pass on the gun. I'm guessing this is still part of the Obama factor, but I am surprised by some of the cartridges that have become unavailable. I had always looked at the .380 as the type of gun that gets carried a lot and shot a little by most of it's owners.

BigBlue, I don't figure the LCP will get shot a whole lot after a break in. Probably just occasional refamiliarization after that.
I'm a fan of the .32 H&R Mag. I have two, a S&W snubby and a Ruger SP-101 w/ 4" barrel. I like the Ruger for carrying in the woods, as you mentioned. I bought 100 cases/brass and I figure they'll last me a while. I plan to use the Rugr in some plate matches if I ever get to shoot again.

Mike,
That SP101 is a real quality gun. I had one in .357 with the 3" barrel and I'm sorry I parted with it. I had a Hogue grip on it and had swapped out the springs with a Wilson spring kit. It was a nice improvement to it.

Pumpkinslinger, you know they have their own website for the LCP. It's called Elsie Pea Store. This is not a joke, haha. They sell lasers etc. for them probably cheaper than anywhere else. That's where my bro. got his laser from for his lcp.
