Very Happy Very Happy I figured you would ask Very Happy Very Happy 2 in the 10ring 1 in the 9 and 2 in the 8, I was the only one there with open sites. It shoots pretty good for a smoothbore. Ya there was some unhappy Mad people there when they didn't make it and they all had scopes 8-O. The deer are more than likley gonna be runnin on this hunt once people start shootin, so i figured i'd be better off using open sites.
Joe

Not bad...Not bad at all...And I believe you may be right. Open sights are better on a running deer or any other game. I hate it when I jump a deer at 35 to 50 yards and all I have is a scope and can only see hair but not know which end of the deer the hair is on.

Have a good hunt. And don't forget to at least bring home some good stories even though we may not believe them...We will humor you even so...

Over here we have to get 3 in a 4'' circle at 100 to get a deer stalking certificate. Our deer are smaller with a smaller vital area. Especialy muntjack and c'w'd.

Beezer, Is that off-hand shooting or can you use some sort of rest? Monopod, sling, etc.

Aah Beezer...I believe we are talkin' 'bout front stuffers here...Using black powder rifles, for some people, hitting their back pocket would be a challenge... ROFL

Oh...Well...Even harder...By The Way shrpshtrjoe. What is the accurate effective range of a slug gun. I'm assuming that is a shot gun. Pardon my ignorence as all I hunt with are handguns and rifles except when I hunt upland game birds.

Yes sir shotguns. Good ones with a rifled barrel shooting sabots on a average will shoot 2-3 inch groups at 100yds. Smooth bores shooting a rifled slug arn't quite that good 3-5 inchs on a average ( they drop like a rock) I would say a max effective range for a sabot would be 100yds-150yds and for a rifled slug 100yds but thats probably pushin it if your not shooting with a rest.

Well the hunt didn't go as hoped 0 deer. I saw 5 all day 2 being bucks witch i didn't draw a buck tag. The 3 doe's I saw were going about 200mph through the field. They only harvested 67 deer on the first day and it looked like less today. There were 5 guys in my group 1 guy got 2 and no one else did 2 guy's didn't even see one. They had 85 stand locations so it's unrealistic to expect them all to be good, it was windy with a light rain today also witch didn't help but it's still better than goin to work Very Happy . I still think it's a cool deal though the cub scouts were there bright and early makin coffee and breakfast sandwitch's and the whole thing is done with volunteers they put a lot of work into it. It was still a good day Very Happy .
