Triple 7 cleans up with water alone!!!

I’ve heard different things about it so I’ll let those with more experience verse you on powder selection for front stuffers.

I have always use pyrodex powder, clean up is relatively easy I used to just do the soap and water trick but I have become partial to the Rusty Duck Black Off it's super easy to clean with. A lot will depend on how clean you keep it in the field while cleaning. The triple 7 is supposed to be easier but I just never tried it.

I like Triple 7 too. Shoots good, cleans easy! It's easy to ignite too, even in blanks, unlike some others.

Hope I am not becoming a pain, nor leaving to long of a reply. I have a problem and limited knowledge in the black powder area. You guys seem to be the only ones that are giving me suggestion that seem to have a possible fix.
I read all your suggestions and started putting them to use. I cleaned the gun very carefully last night. I did use a welding tip cleaner and did find my nipple was restricted. The firing pin spring does appear to be corroded, from lack of proper cleaning from the previous owner. I just knew that after your suggestion and my findings, I was on the road to a repair. I came home this evening, fired a primer through the gun, then loaded it. CCI primers and triple seven powder. I fired the gun and there is no change. A delay in the firing (even seemed a little slower than usual, and a face full of powder spray.
Could a weak spring cause the delay and the spray. I assumed that if it fired the primer, it was alright. Beginning to lose faith in the gun. Anymore suggestions

Don't worry about asking questions that's what were all here for. We all have questions and we try to give each other what help we can. There is a great wealth of knowledge on this sight.

I suppose it is possible that not enough fire is getting thru due to blow back. A new primer seat may be in order.

Do Triple 7 pellets have an end of the pellet that is darker on one end like Pyrodex pellets? If they are upside down that could cause a delay.

I too have a 700ML. In WA and ID we can not use 209 primers so I can not comment on the blow back.
IMO with the "long" flash channel in all breach plugs, loose powder will give you more reliable ignition. I've missed both a large Blacktail Buck and a 6pt Bull to a hang fire using pellets. NO MORE! I've used lots of different loose powder and have been using 777 and CCI #11 mag caps the last few years.
NO HANG fire and no blow back.

By the way, Windex on a patch is a good quick cleaning solution when in the field or range.

Don't worry about asking questions, we are all more than happy to help.

Are you using new powder or did it come with the gun? I'm still leaning toward the powder being the problem with the hang fires... Teknys may be on to something there too. I've always used loose powder because I could tweak the loads a bit. I'm shooting 110 grains of Triple 7 in my Encore now.

The only time I've had blow back was when the flash hole was too large. But those were on "hammer guns". A new nipple fixed it. I am assuming that the blow back occurs when the powder charge goes off, not when the primer fires. I'm not familiar with the Remingtons but shouldn't the action protect the shooter from that?

Just keep asking away !!! And don’t be surprised if we end up discussing something else along the way.

Hmm..............Windex!!!

wtf Yea once in a while we tend to wander off topic once in a while, just kick us back on topic, or come along for the ride.
Windex is a great idea, I hate the amount of fouling when shooting sabot through my inline 2 shots max and have to give the bore a swab. My side locks like to shoot 365gr conical's and I can get 4 to 5 shots it I am just playing. If I am zeroing or doing some serious shooting I swab every other shot. Insane

Is there a loose powder brand that is better for use or easier for cleaning than the others.

What's up Doc, I like American Pioneer powder, (you know the powder Jim Shockey uses). No need for bore lube at all. It cleans up with soap and water and doesn't stink up the house when cleaning it. You don't have to swab out the bore after only a couple of shots. I get very consistant performance with it. I would highly recommend you try it.
