Or go back to the system of a dozen different smaller stores servicing people instead of one giant store. We used to be like that before the rise of large department stores.

This town I am in right now is like that, 4,000 people and yet they have atleast 3 butcher shops, 2 jewelery stores, 2 small grocery stores, a couple of clothing stores, a appliance store, and even a couple cell phone stores.

At the Wal-Mart stores around here, I pay for ammo at the sporting goods counter. Then I have then scan my dog food and go out the door. Never had a hassle about ammo. All the best...

I don't know about anyone else but my dollar doesn't buy near as much as it used to. I used to believe the talk about big chain stores driving out the mom and pop businesses until I started opening my eye's.

The big stores provide a lot of jobs.

If mom and pop have a specialty big boys don't provide ( quality butcher shop) then they will survive.

Prices are very important to us now, I only have so much money.

To many times I have see small businesses way over charging. I understand that they can't buy in the volume the big boys can but they need to make there prices reasonable to.

Some products you get from the big boys is not necessarily the best quality but we have to weight the difference between the two. When I can I still support the little guy.

There are just some things that I don't trust to buy at the big boys.

I like you thinking Elyboy go for the suits and maybe enough of them start to think they can recommend change.

Money is just a piece of printed cotton sheet that people place a value in their head. Something that is not worth any more then the toilet paper you have in your washroom. When people count all their pennies they start forgetting the bigger picture.

"Buy Good, Buy Once, Buy Cheap, Buy Often"

A 100$ Gerber Made in the USA knife I got, still is going strong, while in the same year or so since I bought it, I know others buying 25$ knives because they are "cheaper and will work out ok" already at their 2nd or 3rd cheap knife. In another year my knife that has preformed flawlessly so far will be cheaper then their buying cheap. Just as one example.

At some level price is a consideration to everyone.

Here in my town in central NJ they don't carry any guns or ammo and have cut way back on hunting gear.

Ammo sales are seldom spontaneous, rather they are planned by most and can be obtained in stores other than big boxes.

Citing jobs as a justification for supporting those big boxes has resulted in sending manufacturing and jobs overseas so that those products can be offered cheaper. Now, we have lost a huge portion of our manufacturing base and replaced good jobs with poor paying jobs and the only reason that this can happen is when people priortize "cheap". Most unfortunate.

So, money is drained from the community and sent out of state and out of country, lining the pockets of those whose vested community interest is solely the extraction of profit. This trend has spread nationwide and now we are reaping the misery. Most unfortunate.

Not looking to start a fight here or turn things political but I have to disagree and state for the record that trade agreements such as NAFTA, GATT, and others, the handling of the illegal steel imports, and corporate greed are the reasons for the damage to our manufacturing base.

The big boxes are there reaping the rewards from what we’ve allowed our leaders to get away with !!!

And don't forget the unions. I blame them for a lot of the jobs going overseas...Poor management and unions took the auto industry down...

They were going over seas years ( and I mean YEARS) before all that crap. NAFT and GATT had nothing to do with it, except to speed the process up...

The UAW is what drove the United States Auto Industry over the edge.
